INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY
(PROGRAMMING)

Many believe that universal access to ICT would bring about a global community of interaction,
commerce, and learning resulting in higher standards of living and improved social welfare
(Dewan & Riggins, 2005)
This research agenda serves as a guide and motivation to conceptualize research topics
according to the interest of ICT learners. Learners are assume to take responsibility in selecting
hardware and software products appropriate for an organization, integrating products according to
immediate needs as well as, installing, customizing, and maintaining created applications to improve
the use of technology.
According to Stahl et.al (2014), ‘responsible research and innovation’ (RRI) is applied to
information and communication technology (ICT) that addresses some of the limitations of computer
ethics and points toward a broader approach to the governance of science, technology and
innovation.
In terms of research method, ICT learners can utilize qualitative, quantitative or both.
Qualitative Research recognizes advantages and disadvantages of the product to promote effective
learning so that website, hardware and any form of machines being studied are improved. Related
literature and studies are highly regarded in qualitative to support theories.
When researchers choose to test learner’s product or instruments (created or improvised)
for information and communication, quantitative research is applied. Hence, methods such as
experimental design with the use of control and experimental group; comparative analyses to weigh
old and new product usefulness or involve two different groups to assess the inventions, improvise
website or technology can be utilized.
Mixed method involves the use of both qualitative and quantitative in a single study. It can
confirm or cross-validate relationships discovered between variables and compared to see if they
converge on a single interpretation (Fraenkel, Wallen & Hyun, 2012). In any design, results and
recommendation can be a reference for technology development and future research.
The following research topics/agenda are herein identified and suggested for ICT -
Information & Communications Technology- Programing strand.
