What is STS?
INTRODUCTION TO SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY
u SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY – is the study of how
science and technology influences society. These influences
can be positive and negative. Through this field, society is
analyzed on its reaction and incorporation of science and
technology.
u SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY- is an exciting
interdisciplinary field of study rooted in the history, Philosophy,
anthropology, and sociology of science and technology (
and medicine)
u It examines deep cultural roots of our techno- scientific society
and addresses pressing public policy issues.

u The word science has been derived from a Latin


word “ SCIENTIA” which means KNOWLEDGE.
u The KNOWLEDGE gained through “OBSERVATION”
and EXPERIMENTATIONS” is known as science.
