Task 1: The table below shows the percentage of the population by
age groups in one town who rode bicycles in 2011.
A glance at the provided table reveals a comparison related to the proportions of people in a
town who rode a bike, categorized by age and gender, in 2011.
Overall, children under nine years old used bicycles the most, while middle-aged people were the
least likely to ride a bicycle. Notably, women tended to cycle more than men for most of the
period shown.
Among females, children under 9 years old made up the largest proportion of cyclists, at 52%.
However, with the older groups, the rates fell by 10% for teenagers aged from 10 to 17 and were
three times less for the local population aged between 18 and 39. The proportion of 40 to 50-
year-old female cyclists was the lowest, at just 12%, while this activity was a little more common
among women aged over 60, with nearly a fifth riding a bicycle.
The percentage of boys who cycled younger than 9 years old was nearly the same as that of girls,
at over a half. However, the figure for boys aged 10 to 17 was just under a quarter, much lower
than that of their female counterparts. Similar to women of the same age groups, men aged 40 to
50, and 60 or over, did not prefer cycling very much, making up only 8% and 14% of total male
participants, respectively.
