1. What is Descriptive Writing?
Descriptive writing helps the reader see, hear, smell, taste, and feel what you are describing. We
use sensory details and vivid words to paint pictures with our writing.
2. Sensory Words Chart
As you observe your object or picture, write down details for each sense:

3. Example
Object: An Orange
- Sight: bright orange, round, bumpy skin
- Sound: peel crackling, squish when pressed
- Smell: sweet, citrusy, fresh
- Taste: juicy, tangy, refreshing
- Touch: rough, dimpled, cool
Sample sentence:
The bright orange fruit sat in my palm, its bumpy skin cool to the touch and its sweet, citrusy smell
filling the air.
