Lesson: Forming Questions in the Present Simple

Objective:

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to form yes/no questions and wh- questions (who, what,

where, when, why, how, etc.) in the Present Simple tense correctly.

1. Introduction (Warm-up):

Do you ask questions every day?

Can you tell me some question words in English?

2. Structure of Present Simple Questions

A) Yes/No Questions

Subject | Do/Does | Verb (base form) | Rest of the sentence

I/You/We/They | do | play | football?

He/She/It | does | eat | rice?

Examples:

- Do you like pizza?

- Does she play tennis?

B) Wh- Questions (Question Word + Do/Does + Subject + Verb)

Examples:

- What do you like?

- Where does he live?

- When do they go to school?

3. List of Question Words (Wh- Words)

What - things / information - What do you eat for breakfast?

Where - place - Where does she live?

When - time - When do they study?

Why - reason - Why do you like English?


Lesson: Forming Questions in the Present Simple

Who - person (as subject) - Who plays football?

Which - choice - Which color do you prefer?

Whose - possession - Whose book is this?

How - manner - How do you go to school?

How old - age - How old are you?

How many - quantity (countable) - How many books do you have?

How much - quantity (uncountable) / price - How much water do you drink?

How often - frequency - How often do you exercise?

How long - duration - How long does the lesson last?

How far - distance - How far do you walk every day?

Special Note:

- If "who" is the subject -> No "do/does" -> "Who lives here?"

- Otherwise -> "Who does she like?"

4. Practice Activity

Rewrite these sentences as questions:

1. You eat breakfast at 7.

2. She visits her grandmother on Fridays.

3. They watch TV after dinner.

4. He plays football.

5. I drink tea every morning.

Make questions with these words:

1. (what / you / like to eat?)

2. (how often / she / go to the gym?)

3. (where / they / live?)

4. (who / help you with homework?)

5. (how long / it / take to get there?)

Example conversation:

A: What do you usually do on weekends?
