both how you named your file or the info you provided at the start of
your document.

Please provide the file name info as the first line of your document
Please provide the following info as the first line in your document and as
the file name:
Course Name and #_ Student ID #_Student Name_Assignment #
So if I was submitting Assignment 3 for ENTR 4751 my first line of
information in my document and filename would be:
Entr 4751_T00012345_Keith Whitmore_Assignment 3
You would of course use your ID number and your name. Be sure to
include your first name separated by a space and then your last name
Please use this syntax (order/format). Note leave a blank space between
your first and last name.
This same information is used
1) In naming your file (filename).

Welcome to the course / assignments.

I look forward to working with you and hope you enjoy the course. Please
review the attached for my feedback and suggestions on assignments going
forward.
Three key things I want you to make sure to do for the next assignment
(marks are lost if you don’t do these things so make a note of them). These
were mentioned in my welcome email so you may want to review that as
well. Details is provided further down but for now:
1. Use Headings for the different sections.
2. Clearly state what Option you are doing (as
applicable).
3. Use Report Format where you repeat the entire
question.

In terms of your project, I suggest you try to keep it simple. What I mean by
this is do something like a food vendor cart as opposed to an airline. Try to
find something that interests you but that is simple enough that you can
actually put together a cogent (clear, concise, believable) plan to examine
the feasibility of your idea.

Option X
Note – the mark in Moodle is out of 30 and is an average of the three parts.
The grade in the Grade Portal which is what is used to calculate your course
mark is a percentage.
I encourage you to continue to keep an eye on the media and read
appropriate articles and watch appropriate shows. I recall reading an
interesting article in the “Economist” on “geo-arbitrage” which is effectively
using good entrepreneurial ideas from another part of the world. You may
want to have a look at the article which is at
http://www.economist.com/node/21556269
TV shows such as Dragon’s Den are also very useful. You can access this
program at http://www.cbc.ca/dragonsden/ (search on google if the URL has
moved and please send me an email with the new address and I can update
this info).
I look forward to working with you throughout the course. I am here to help
so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I hope you
enjoy your course and learning experience and will do my best to enhance
this.

For Assignment 2
At this point you are still developing a business proposal. You need to
identify at a high level what that proposal is and then move on to the
industry porter and macro analysis. When I say at a high level you need
to explain the essence of your business. What and where is it/ will it be?
How does it make money? Explain it in simple terms as if you were
explaining it to your parents.

You want to be able to explain your business concept in simple terms. Think about whether
your Mom and Dad or Grandparents would be able to understand the concept and how it
makes money.

Part B
Activity 2.1 is to identify any irritants and you should ideally come up with
your own as opposed to taking them from the readings. For the
assignment you should take two of these and provide a pitch for each
identifying what is the problem, what you have to offer, etc.
These must be different irritants then what you are addressing in your
business.
Option 2 – good
As you did

make sure you clearly state which option you have chosen and use report format where you

first repeat the complete question. The intent of Report Format is to force you to look at

the criteria to ensure you have addressed all components and for me to make sure I am

following your work correctly.

Complete parts A, B, and C.

Headings
Please use headings in your document.
For a video on how to use the Navigation Pane and Headings go to a video in YouTube at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXUKCSYRKgY
If this video has moved just do a search in YouTube on using Headings in Word
To see the Navigation Pane in Word – click on the View Tab and click in the box by “Navigation
Pane” in the “Show” Group (second group)
This is a very useful feature of Word that you will use a lot so I encourage you to learn how to
use it and employ it in your assignments.

Good entrepreneur is the person who takes risks by investing time, money, energy in some
product or service to make it better or invent something new which have ability to earn or
generate money in future. The entrepreneur has potential to invent something new that can
benefit society and generate money in future.
usually, the larger organization have the right amount of resources and some ideas that can be
developed into the new innovation. Larger business has more experience and knowledge of
what is happening in industry and the world, they know more about problems faced by
customers and employees. as they have a lot of customers, employees, and shareholders etc.
that come together. larger organization employees have more interaction with people, and they
gain more knowledge about what problems are faced by the employees in their firm. the large
according to article “proclivity for entrepreneurship” corporations’ managers have risk taking
behaviour which make them a good entrepreneur. Despite while smaller business owners focus
mainly on their personality. Smaller business owners try to earn money for their living. but
large corporations’ owners and managers try to seek profit by risk taking. The amount of
money invested by corporations’ owners say that they are risk taker. As people who become
entrepreneurs risk everything they have to. according to article the entrepreneurs are defined
by the goals of profit and growth of their venture. Entrepreneurs try to risk the money they
have today for future profits and to expand their company. They spend their time, money and
effort on the idea to get huge profit in future. the also have goals in their life as they want to
become something or try to do something very different. They try to improve performance for
venture. The goal and performance measurement are important in entrepreneurship.
The settings of goals is seen as difference between small business owners and corporations as
corporations try to make goals like higher profit while business owners goals are limited to get
money to pay their expenses. These goals motivate the people a lot as it encourages them to do
something different in their life. The corporation’s manager has higher goals and expectations
than business owners which shows that there us more chance that a corporate manager will be
an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs have a lot of preference for innovation as they try to generate
new idea and innovation.

There are a lot of entrepreneurship abilities that are mainly founded in larger organizations, but
small business lacks them.
They try to focus their energy on a goal they set by try to make something new and different
and does not waste their time and money on making a similar product that already exist. They
make something that is unimaginable by people that it can exist. they do not want to do regular
activities that happen in company while they focus their energy on becoming an extraordinary
person by focusing on goals. They try to get as much as they can from every opportunity
example if they get chance to learn new material they always take advantage of that and learn it
at any cost. This makes them different from others as they try to learn new material and focuses
on fulfilling their dreams and goals of innovating.

You make some good points and have clearly given this some thought. You do however need to
work on your writing.

Tips for Effective Writing

(Adapted by Keith Whitmore from “Effective Writing” Ninth Edition by May and May
1. Content : Make sure the content is complete and accurate. Have you
addressed all of the questions / issues? If you are asked for references and
anecdotes have you provided them?
2. Critical Thinking: Think carefully about the issues. Have you demonstrated
that you have thought about the issues as opposed to just parroting back
what others have written on the subject?
3. Conciseness: Make every word count. A concise writing style allows your
reader to find the information they need quickly and easily.
4. Clarity: Your writing should be clear and readable. Choose words carefully so
that they convey your meaning with precision and clarity.
5. Coherence: Your work should be organized so that it flows logically, and the
train of thought is easy to follow.
6. Revision: Review and revise your work. Ensure it is free of spelling mistakes
and grammatical errors. Is it concise, clear, and coherent? Does it
demonstrate critical thinking?
7. Practice: Effective writing requires practice.

Brevity is an art that needs to be practiced. Business writing needs to be concise and to the
point. Flowery narratives should be avoided.

Part B (ID Sector)

 Identify a sector in your community which is a hotbed of
entrepreneurial activity.
 Provide insight into the conditions that have promoted
entrepreneurship in this sector in your city or community.

In my community there is a lot of entrepreneurial ability in setting up transport business. As it

need a lot of investment and a lot of people are motivated to start their own transport business
as it can give a lot of profit and it never slowdown because of many reasons. There will always
be transportation of goods like grocery, and other household product like tide etc. which are
needed by everybody. There will always be demand in this business as there is always
transportation of materials between business and individuals. There is always a big opportunity
to grow your business as you can expand it to other cities and provinces.
So – you are talking about trucking? Are you thinking short-haul within a city or long-haul
between cities.

the ???
Be sure to proofread your work.

As our city is very close to America. What is your city?

it has created an opportunity for transportation a good business to start and invest in. this is a
path to America and have a best route to go through. The route has made a lot big retail and
wholesale business to go through the city and have made them find a transportation within city.
because of loading and unloading the material and it makes the worker get rest, meals and
other material needed by them. it attracts the people who work in transport to come to city and
live here. Usually, the amount of resources required to start a transport business exist in the
city, and there are so many people who want to get into this business due to motivation of
earning money but there is so much investment needed.
There are some forces that limited entrepreneurial ability in community. A lot of management
as you know to run a business you need to look and handle at a lot of things that make your
business run. You need a lot of resources and management to do transportation business. You
need a lot of knowledge and skilled people who can do the job properly. You have to be very
smart in administration work to set up business and should also be very careful with decision as
one decision can affect the business revenue and reputation. It is done only if you have proper
knowledge and information about business which a lot of people lacks. The community
also lacks the right path to start business.as some people want to start transportation trucking
business, but they lack information and knowledge about how they can start, what resources is
needed, what different positions needed to start business. They also do not know how to
manage it. they need good amount of knowledge about the fuel cost , maintenance, and
insurance affects on business due to long routes.
Business have been affected a lot in Canada nowadays due to economic downturn, people do
not have money to invest in business and they are also scared of investment as they feel that
there is less chance of getting return on investment , even the amount invested might not
return back. This have affected the economy as the economy is not doing very well compare to
other countries and people are scared to invest money in Canadian economy which is making
the situation more worst .
There is a lot of safety concern in trucking in big routes specially during winter when there is
snow. The safety concern discourages employee to work for trucking company. Less employee
means business does not run. The company also have to pay employee after injury that is why
some company does not run properly as they do not make enough money to cover expenses..
The other problem is worker shortages as people are less motivated to work in trucking
company as there is no family life when they have to go to long rotes as they return to home
after 5 or 6 days and get only one or two days off to stay with family and that time is being
spent on other work like shopping for grocery, paperwork for company. they get less time to
spent with family or relax which decrease motivation to work as transport worker.
We should try to provide people with information and knowledge in seminars, workshops to
how to start and manage trucking business. government should try to give loan to trucking
business and give them more time to repay it, this will decrease the stress of paying loan while
the company not making money. when the business starts the company does not have money
or they are not earning money. the company also shut down due to this reason as they do not
have money and they must pay the loa. The company owners have to do a lot of set up before
starting a business and they are financially struggling and do not have many resources when
starting business. when they have to repay loan during this time, they start selling company
assets and start shutting down business. to solve this problem, government can stop the
payment for some time during starting of business and start it after a one year sometime when
they feel like it is enough time to get settled in business and get stable. This will decrease
stress on business owners and will give the time to get settle when they are able to earn profit.
This will encourage owners not to stress and focus on business. It will benefit business owners
as they will be able to start and run business. it also benefits government as when business run,
it is able to repay the loan and tax to government. The government should try to arrange
workshops where successful business owners in this field and entrepreneurs to help other start
the business. This is very good method as in other fields of business, entrepreneurs are trying to
teach others how to start and manage business, this way the people who lack information on
this business. they get information and able to start business. This increased awareness and
encouraged people to start business. the economic downturn should problem also be solved.
the economy is not functioning properly, then business owners s try to stop investment in the
businesses and try to lay off workers. today this is a big problem as the economy is not
functioning properly, the business is facing a big risk due to this. some businesses are shutting
down because of poor management and decisions. But they should try to face this issue with
right decision by decreasing the expenses, lay off workers, try to stop investment in businesses.
They should wait for investment and expanding until economy get settle or get better. the
America economy is not better, and which is affecting trucking business because a lot of goods
are transport between Canada and America. As American economy slowing down affecting their
retail and other business which is decreasing amount of work in this field in Canada. The
government should try to get help and partnership with other countries to support the
economy. if economy get better the business will start running and making profit. The socially,
people are not motivated to start a business, due to risk of getting into loss. as told early
entrepreneurs and people who have started this business and are successful in this business try
to arrange workshops to help motivate these people and it also provide them with information
needed to start and manage business. only some people have motivation to start business in
this field. In these workshops they should try to explain that there is long term benefit in this
field as this business will never stop. The government should try to provide information to
trucking company owners or people who want to start this business on how to run business
successfully. We should try to keep the companies should also try to give more insurances
benefits, check safety concern daily. This will increase the number of employee as they will feel
safer and will not worry about how to manage their self if they get injured. They number of
workers will increase and business will start running. The government should try to help
trucking or transport businesses run by providing funds to these businesses.

There is confidence in idea as there a lot of business that are successful in this field. People
think that it will be profitable in long term as there is demand forever. They know that there can
be a lot of profit if you are able to manage properly. The location is very perfect as it is best
route in terms of comfortability and smooth route. It is the only path which is less time
consuming and comfortable to go through and the border is very close to this city. The city has a
lot of space and other convenience stores, gas station, restaurant, parking space which provide
worker with all the resources.

Be sure to take time to refine your writing. You need to ensure there are no spelling or
grammatical errors.

Do not hesitate to use spell checker and grammar checker. Many of the tools in Word can
greatly improve our work and documents and you should make use of them (smiles). Nudge,
nudge.
Spelling errors and grammatical errors are highlighted. By highlighting the error and right
clicking on it, Word will suggest a correction which is usually correct.

You also need to organize your work so it flows concisely and clearly.

or forces that have limited entrepreneurial activity.
 What are the principal barriers to entrepreneurial activity and what
measures or actions might be necessary at a local or economic and
social level to promote entrepreneurship?

Barriers might include economic conditions, weather, infrastructure (e.g. high

speed internet, transportation), lack of a stable government, etc.
