Read a text about International Women's Day and decide if each of the sentences is T (True),
F (False) or DS (Doesn't Say)
Every year, lots of people all over the world have a chance to show their love and care to their
beloved women who are their wives, mothers, grandmothers or sisters by many ways on a special
day - the 8th of March or International Women's Day. Not just that, this is also a global day
celebrating what women have achieved in social, economic, cultural as well as political fields and
reminding all people in the world of the equality that women deserve to have.
The International Women's Day is the result of a long period of time when women, especially the
female workers, gathered together and fought for their rights. In the late 19 th century, the women and
female children who worked in American garment factories had to work 12 hours a day, but they
had very low salaries. On the 8th of March, 1899, the American female workers started their
campaigns by taking to the streets to protest against the terrible working conditions, low pay as well
as voting rights. With this start, thousands of other campaigns in other countries also took place. In
1907, three women, Clara Zetkin (from Germany), Romans Luxembourg (from Poland) and
Nadezhda Krupskaya (from Russia), founded "Women's Office". Then, in the International
Women's Conference in August 1910, they proposed a Women's Day to be organised every year.
They decided to choose the 8th of March to be International Women's Day with three slogans:
workers only work for 8 hours a day, men and women work the same amount, and female workers
as well as children must have proper protection.
36. Only men have to do something special to express their respect for women on this day. ___
37. The International Women's Day celebrates women's achievements in many fields. ___
