@ Noun :
A noun is a word that indicates the name of a person, a place, an
animal, a thing or an action.
Function of Noun
1) Subject of the verb : ex. Madhavi eats a mango.
2) Complement of the verb : ex. Reshma is a doctor.
3) Object of the verb : ex. I saw Mumbai.
4) Object of a Preposition : ex. Ramesh spoke to Raviraj.
Types of Noun
1) Proper Noun : Proper nouns are words which refer to the particular
names of people, animals, places and things. Proper nouns always begin
with a capital letter.
Ex.
1) Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system.
2) Kalidasa is the Shakespeare of India.
2)Common Noun: Common nouns are words that refer to persons, animals
or thing of the same kind or general category.
Ex. He owns a shop on the main street of the town.
*Look at these common nouns and their corresponding proper nouns.

3)Collective Noun: Collective nouns are nouns refer to a group of people or
things.
Ex. The committee arrived of the decision together.
Other collective noun: audience, class, army, bunch, flock, herd, parliament,
police, Jury, etc.
4)Material Noun : Material nouns refer to material or substances used to make
things.
Ex. Gold is a good conductor of heat.
Paper, Glass, gold, Wood, Iron, Wood, Rubber, Plastic, Jute
5)Abstract Noun : Abstract nouns refer to things which we cannot see or touch
but only feel. They include feelings, experience, states, qualities and ideas.
Ex. Love, hate, pride, comfort, chaos, courage, freedom, truth, belief,
adventure, drought, etc.
6)Concrete Noun : Concrete nouns refer to things that we can touch or see.
They can be both countable and uncountable.
Ex. Box, bag, bottle, car, keys, table, milk, oil, butter.
7)Compound Nouns : Compound nouns are nouns that are formed by
combining two or more words.
Ex. Toothbrush, greenhouse, haircut, take-off, bedroom, post office, bus stop,
dry-cleaning, etc.
● Countable Noun: Countable nouns are names of things that can be
counted. They can be singular or plural.
● A singular noun is the name of a single person or thing.
Ex. Satellite, Volcano
● A plural Noun is the name of more than one person or thing.
Ex. Emperors, Fountains.
● Uncountable Nouns: Uncountable nouns are names of things that
cannot be counted. They do not have singular or plural forms.
Uncountable nouns are usually liquid, grains, feelings, abstract ideas,
natural phenomena and states of being.
Ex. Milk, Water, Justice, rain, Youth, happiness, love, etc.
