III. Content
A. Male Reproductive Part
The male reproductive part of a flower is called the stamen. It is made up of the
anther, which produces pollen, and the filament, a soft stem that supports the anther and
carries nutrients to it. The pollen developed in the anther is a powdery substance
containing male reproductive cells. These parts work together to make and release pollen,
which is needed to fertilize the female part of the flower.
B. Female Reproductive Part
The pistil is the female part of the flower. It has three main parts: the stigma,
which collects the pollen; the style, which is the tube that leads the pollen to the ovary;
and the ovary, where the ovules (egg cells) are stored. After pollen travels down the style
to reach the ovary, fertilization happens. The ovule becomes a seed, and the ovary
becomes a fruit.
C. Other Flower Parts
Flowers also have non-reproductive parts like petals, sepals, and the receptacle.
The petals give the flower its color and shape, attracting insects for pollination. The
sepals protect the flower bud before it blooms. The receptacle is the thick base of the
flower where all the parts are attached and supported.
D. Kinds of Flower
Flowers can be classified as perfect or imperfect. A perfect flower has both the
stamen and pistil, while an imperfect flower has only one — either the stamen or the
pistil.
E. Process of Pollination and Fertilization
Pollination happens when pollen from the anther is transferred to the stigma. This
can happen through the wind, insects, or animals. Once the pollen reaches the stigma, it
travels down the style to the ovary where fertilization takes place. The fertilized ovule
will grow into a seed, and the ovary will develop into a fruit.
