Introduction to Personality
Personality is the sum total of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and attitudes that makes a person
unique.
Two aspects:
- Internal → Attitude, values, emotions, motivation
- External → Behavior, communication, appearance

1. Heredity → Traits inherited from parents (intelligence, physique)
2. Environment → Family, culture, society
3. Situation → Different situations bring different behaviors

1. Type Theories:
- Hippocrates: Four types (Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, Phlegmatic)
- Carl Jung: Introvert vs Extrovert
2. Trait Theories:
- Gordon Allport: Cardinal, Central, Secondary traits
- Big Five (OCEAN): Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism
3. Psychoanalytic Theory (Freud):
- Id (Instincts), Ego (Reality), Superego (Morality)
4. Humanistic Theory (Maslow & Rogers):
- Focus on self-growth and self-actualization
