Essential English Words for Effective Communication

Welcome to your guide to the essential English words that will help you
communicate effectively! These are words that go beyond basic vocabulary
and will help you sound more confident and fluent. Each word comes with its
meaning, an example sentence, and a fun practice exercise to help you
master the word. Let's get started!

Instructions: For each word, read the meaning and example sentence. Then,
complete the practice exercise. Try to use the word in different ways. The
more you practice, the more you'll improve!

Words with Meaning, Examples, and Practice Exercises

1. Adapt

 Meaning: To change or adjust to new conditions.

 Example: "She had to adapt quickly to the new environment."

 Practice: Write about a situation where you had to adapt to a new


challenge.

2. Advocate

 Meaning: To publicly support a cause or idea.

 Example: "He advocates for environmental protection."

 Practice: Write a short speech advocating for something you care


about.

3. Analyze

 Meaning: To examine in detail to understand better.


 Example: "The scientist analyzed the data before writing the report."

 Practice: Analyze why your favorite hobby is enjoyable and explain in


three sentences.

4. Approach

 Meaning: To come closer or deal with a situation.

 Example: "You should approach the manager with your concerns."

 Practice: Role-play how you would approach someone for help with
homework.

5. Assertive

 Meaning: Confident without being aggressive.

 Example: "She was assertive during the meeting, sharing her ideas
clearly."

 Practice: Practice introducing yourself in an assertive but friendly way.

6. Benefit

 Meaning: An advantage or positive result.

 Example: "Exercise has many health benefits."

 Practice: List three benefits of learning English.

7. Collaborate

 Meaning: To work together with others.

 Example: "We collaborated on the group project to meet the deadline."

 Practice: Pair up with a partner and brainstorm three ideas for a school
event.

8. Compromise

 Meaning: To settle differences by mutual agreement.

 Example: "We compromised on the time for the meeting."

 Practice: Think of a conflict you’ve had and describe how a


compromise could resolve it.
9. Consequence

 Meaning: A result of an action or decision.

 Example: "The consequence of being late was missing the flight."

 Meaning: To persuade someone to agree or believe.
