COMMUNITY AID CHARTER
This Charter lays out the principles upholding the Community Aid (CA) and the standards we expect from all those who
join our organizations as members, volunteers and employees. This Charter is centered on the principles of
development & humanitarian action and grounded in the view that Members donation & Donors Grants are at the
forefront of development and humanitarian relief. Many of the clauses laid out in this charter reflect those of the Code
of Conduct, Polices and the compliance of regulatory bodies like the Executive Body and sub Committees. This charter
consolidates some of the more pertinent points of those various documents, which we believe are also entrenched into
CA Systems, as well as CA’s own expectations. This is to reaffirm that the Donations of our members & Grants of our
Donors expand to target beneficiaries, inspired by the development & humanitarian values imperative to assist those in
vulnerability during disaster, is transparent, impartial, accountable and effective to the best of their ability.
The signatories to this charter pledge to strive for and ensure that:
1. Invest in and train our staff in the necessary skill-sets to undertake their work effectively.
2. Attend trainings and engage in relevant debates and discussions about Civil Society development.
3. We build local capacity and involve beneficiaries in the design of our programmes, and ensure that their
involvement is representative of a variety of actors.
4. Share different information regarding development and coordinate with CA members and the wider
community.
6. The Organization will not be used to further a political, religious or ideological standpoint.
7. The humanitarian imperative always comes first and aid is given regardless of race, religion, tribe, creed,
nationality, gender orientation, sexual orientation, class and physical ability. Our criteria will be needs based
only.
8. We are accountable and transparent to our beneficiaries as well as our donors, and will communicate how aid is
delivered and money is spent.
9. Adopt and/or create relevant policies for our organizations to ensure compliance, transparency and efficiency.
10. Make the principles of “Do No Harm” mainstream in our development programs and relief efforts; this relates
to being aware and understanding of gender, ethnic, social dynamics.
