According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), improper

waste segregation at the local level is the main reason why solid waste management is still a
significant issue in the Philippines. Waste disposal can have a significant negative impact on the
environment. The environment, as well as public health and safety, should obviously be protected,
making appropriate waste management a top priority. It is a very significant problem that has to
be addressed, and everyone should be aware why waste segregation might be the difference
between the survival of the earth and the worsening impacts in the natural biological system.
Waste management has consistently been a contentious issue. The managing of waste products
from the point of production till disposal is referred to as waste management. This comprises the
manner in which the firm or corporation gathers, moves, treats, recycles, or discards its trash. The
topic of pollution is another one. Humanity pollutes the environment by generating a variety of
things in addition to producing a lot of waste. For instance, industries that produce plastic
significantly contaminate the air with smoke. Some wastes can be highly dangerous and can
pollute the environment. Poor waste management techniques can pollute the ground and the air,
which can lead to major health problems in people, animals, and even plants. Segregated waste
is frequently less expensive to dispose of than mixed waste since it requires less manual or
mechanical sorting than the latter. A good waste management system can make valuable
resources available for reuse. This may result in cost savings as well as new employment and
business prospects. The environment benefits from waste reduction, reuse, and recycling, but it
can also be financially advantageous. It reduces the amount of waste that needs to be disposed

of, frees up landfill space, and protects natural resources. Our future generations are in grave
danger as a result of the alarming pollution levels. We must educate our kids about the value of
waste management and the 3 Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in order to effectively address
the threat that is global pollution. Children should be involved in the process, and they should be
taught that every little bit counts.

The Philippine government, in particular the Department of Environment and Natural

Resources, made the decision to launch a rehabilitation project as a way to address pollution
problems on land and at sea, including harmful algal blooms, subsidence and groundwater
extraction, overfishing, habitat loss, and Manila Bay degradation. However, project opponents are
concerned about the health effects this will have on the children as a result of the P28 million
budget allocated to the dolomite sand. Not alone must the waters of Manila Bay be purified; the
ecosystems that formerly flourished there must also be rebuilt if the area is to be successfully
rehabilitated. This approach gives the Philippine government a chance to demonstrate its
dedication to promote nature-based solutions, which are typically less expensive than equivalent
engineering solutions and help a variety of sectors on an economic, environmental, and social
level. Although beauty may be subjective, facts and evidence allow us to see the advantages and
outcomes. As that area of Manila Bay has been shown to be easily inundated in previous years,
there is a strong likelihood that the crushed dolomite might be quickly washed away by high tides,
severe rains, or a storm surge. Sea level rise and land subsidence might entirely destroy the
dolomite as climate change grows more severe in the next decades. The DENR should
concentrate on restoring natural ecosystems along that stretch of the Manila Bay shoreline rather
than on "white sand." Even though the stretch is only 500 meters long, the way the area's arguably
most famous part is handled conveys a symbolic message about the government's priorities for
the rehabilitation process. For example, rebuilding the seagrass ecosystems there would be more
advantageous than keeping up the existing cosmetic efforts. They, along with other habitats like
mangroves and coral reefs, have deteriorated as a result of sediment deposition, reclamation
activities, and other anthropogenic activities, according to the Manila Bay Sustainable
Development Master Plan.
