Tutorial Question

The (*) questions serve as your assignment and to be submitted.

a) What is the between a linear circuit and a non-linear circuit?
b) Given the circuit shown below and its i-v response; indicate the dynamic route, label
all the equilibrium points and state whether they are stable or unstable. Suppose
𝑣𝑐 (0) = 1.5𝑉, find sketch 𝑣𝑐 (𝑡) and 𝑖𝑐 (𝑡) for 𝑡 ≥ 0. Indicate all important
information on the sketches.

c) State the types of interconnection of two-ports and sketch the connections.

d) Obtain the expression of the z-parameter variables for the T circuit shown.

e) *Obtain the ABCD parameters for the cascaded circuit. Take 𝑎 = 2. 𝑧𝑎 = 1Ω, 𝑧𝑏 =
10Ω and 𝑧𝑐 = 5Ω.

g) *Find the T parameters of the configuration of the circuits shown below

h) Write a short note on following
i. filter ii. passive filter iii. active filter.
i) *Obtain the voltage gain H(s) of the second-order active low-pass filter shown. Take
𝑅1 = 10𝑘Ω. 𝑅2 = 1𝑘Ω, 𝐶1 = 10𝜇𝐹 and 𝐶2 = 4.7𝜇𝐹. Also, determine: the frequency
and the Q factor of the filter.

j) Explain briefly the types of an ideal filter.

k) *Given the diagram, determine voltage gain of the circuit

l) *Using the relationship between y-parameters and z-parameters i.e. [𝑍]−1 = [𝑌].
Determine the relation between individual z and y parameters.
m) Determine the y-parameters for the bridged T circuit using the mesh analysis
n) Using appropriate diagrams briefly explain the following constant k-pass filter.
i. T-configuration of high pass filter
ii. T-configuration of band pass filter
o) *Briefly explain the response of Chebyshev filter and conditions for the filter.
p) *Determine the poles of the transfer function of a Butterworth filter for n=4, also plot
the response of the transfer function H(s) and realize the network from the transfer
function.
