a) 81 b) 54
c) 99 d) 36
2. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 12. If the denominator is increased by 3, the fraction [1]
becomes , then the fraction is

c) d)
5. A and B are friends. A is elder to B by 5 years. B’s sister C is half the age of B while A’s father D is 8 years older than [1]
twice the age of B. If the present age of D is 48 years, then find the present ages of A, B and C respectively.
a) 40 years, 20 years, 15 years b) 20 years, 15 years, 10 years
c) 50 years, 25 years, 20 years d) 25 years, 20 years,10 years
6. The difference between the two numbers is 26 and the larger number exceeds thrice of the smaller number by 4. [2]
Find the numbers.
7. Find the value(s) of so that the pair of equations and has a unique solution. [2]
8. For what value of , will the following pair of equations have infinitely many solutions: [3]
and
9. Solve for and :
10. The ratio of incomes of two persons is 9 : 7 and the ratio of their expenditures is 4 : 3. If each of them manages to [3]
save 2000 per month, then find their monthly incomes.
11. A and B have certain number of oranges. A said to B, " If you give me 10 of your oranges, I will have twice the [3]
number of oranges left with you " . B replies " If you give 10 of your oranges. I will have the same number of
oranges as left with you". Find the number of oranges with A and B respectively.
12. Seven times a two digit number is equal to four times the number obtained by reversing the order of its digits. If [3]
the difference between the digits is 3, determine the number.
13. The area of a rectangle remains the same if the length is increased by 7 metres and the breadth is decreased by 3 [3]
metres. The area remains unaffected if the length is decreased by 7 metres and breadth is increased by 5 metres.
Find the dimensions of the rectangle.
14. The sum of the numerator and denominator of a fraction is 3 less than twice the denominator. If the numerator [5]
and the denominator both are decreased by 1, the numerator becomes half the denominator. Determine the
fraction.
15. Ved travels 600 km to his home partly by train and partly by car. He takes 8 hours if he travels 120 km by train and [5]
the rest by car. He takes 20 minutes longer if he travels 200 km by train and the rest by car. Find the speed of the
train and the car.
16. Assertion (A): For k = 6, the system of linear equations and is inconsistent. [1]
Reason (R): The system of linear equations and a x + b y + c = 0 is inconsistent if
17. Assertion (A): Line represented by and do have non - zero solutions. [1]
Reason (R): Two lines represented by and always has non - zero solutions
18. Assertion (A): Both lines represented by and – meet at origin. [1]
Reason (R): Equations of type and always pass through origin, i.e., meet at origin.

Lokesh, a production manager in Mumbai, hires a taxi every day to go to his office. The taxi charges in Mumbai
consist of fixed charges together with the charges for the distance covered. His office is at a distance of 10 km
from his home. For a distance of 10 km to his office, Lokesh paid 105. While coming back home, he took another
route. He covered a distance of 15 km and the charges paid by him were 155.
i. What are the fixed charges?
ii. What are the charges per km?
iii. If fixed charges are 20 and charges per km are 10, then how much Lokesh have to pay for travelling a
distance of 10 km?
iv. Find the total amount paid by Lokesh for travelling 10 km from home to office and 25 km from office to
home. [Fixed charges and charges per km are as in (i) & (ii)].
20. Read the text carefully and answer the questions: [4]
Architect : An architect is a skilled professional who plans and designs buildings and generally plays a key role in
their construction. Architects are highly trained in the art and science of building design. Since they bear
responsibility for the safety of their buildings’ occupants, architects must be professionally licensed.
Vishu is a licensed architect and design very innovative house. She has made a house layout for her client which is
given below. In the layout, the design and measurements has been made such that area of two bedrooms and
kitchen together is 95 sq. m.
i. Which pair of linear equations does describe this situation?
ii. What is the length of the outer boundary of the layout?
iii. What is the area of the bedroom 1?
iv. What is the area of living room in the layout?
