INTRODUCTION

Custom Weapon System or “Cockpit Weapon System”(As described by the original author)
is a free DLC for the DCS Su30 Community Mod. This DLC Adds Multirole Capability to the
mod enabling it to seamlessly utilize functionalities of both Su33 and Su25T at the same
time, removing the need to have two versions of the same aircraft. With this DLC, you will
be able to engage air to air (AA), air to ground (AG) and naval (AS) targets in the same

sortie. This makes the Su30 the first ever standalone multirole capable mod in DCS.

This DLC and its source code DO NOT belong to the Codename Flanker Team. Instead it
was provided to us by the author of this project who gave us permission to distribute this
DLC to the community. The author’s identity will not be disclosed as per his request. Any
request or appeal regarding the author’s identity or source code will be denied and may
result in suspension from our discord. Thank you for your understanding.

This document will only cover aspects that are unique to CWS or Su-30 Mod or both.
Topics that have been covered in official ED user manuals for Su-33 and Su25T will not be
covered. Please check FAQ channel in our discord for link to those manuals. Instead of
covering each specific weapon, the document will instead focus on a number of different
weapon deployment methods and will cover cockpit modes and operations that are
relevant.

INSTALLATION 1.0
1. Make a backup of your current Su-30 Mod installation before you do anything.
2. Download CWS_v1.6.zip from one of the links provided in Releases-Downloads channel
of our official community discord. All links contain the exact same file.
3. Unzip the file using 7Zip or WinRAR. Then Copy all contents and paste them in your
current Su-30 mod install as shown in image below:

By default, your setup location for Su-30 mod will be in "…\Saved

Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft". “Saved Games” folder is usually found inside
“C:\Users\[[USERNAME]]\”.

Page | 4
TWS MULTITRACK 2.0
1) Turn ON Master Arm by clicking the switch(See image below)
2) Enter Beyond Visual Range mode by pressing “2” or by pressing “A/A” switch on UFCP
3) Then turn on Radar by pressing “I”
5) Switch to TWS Mode by pressing “RAlt + I”
6) Basic operation of radar cursor, scan zones, PRF etc are exactly same as Su-33
7) When locking targets, you have to use special keybind “Target Lock TWS”. Otherwise
TWS Multitrack will not work.
8) After you lock your first target, launch an active radar guided(Fox 3) missile
9) Then move your cursor and lock another target in same method and launch again
10) You can repeat this process for more targets.
11) During the process, make sure to keep all the targets within your radar coverage. If a
target goes outside coverage, the lock on it will break and the missile fired at that target
will be on its own

Here is a basic demonstration of how it may play out. Weapons were not fired in this
specific instance as it is meant to simply show the sequence of events:

Yellow = Not tracking

Orange = Target Lock TWS
Red = Weapon fired against target

In TWS Scan, 3 bandits show up.

Page | 5
Bandit 1 gets locked using special keybind(Step 5).

Weapon fired against target 1. Switched to target 2 and locking it using special keybind:

Weapon fired against target 2. Switched to target 3 and locking it using special keybind.

And so on…

Weapons that can be used with this method:

R-27EA
All R-77 Variants
ASTRA MK1
I-Derby ER

You can also use this method to check launch parameters for missiles like R-27EP (Passive
Antiradiation variant of R-27) and even launch it but keep in mind that it guides to target
based on Radar emission of the target aircraft and does not utilize TWS tracking algorithm

TARGETING POD BASICS 3.0
Su-30 can utilize its onboard OLS suite as a targeting apparatus. It can also utilize any
externally mounted targeting pod such as Litening, Damocles or T220 Pod or built in
sensors of weapons. However in the current implementation of CWS, the plane is only
capable of using onboard OLS and built in TV sensor of weapons.

This section will focus on teaching the basic operations and inputs of CWS TGP:

1) Turn ON Master Arm by clicking the switch(See Section 2.0 for image reference)
2) Enter Air To Ground mode by pressing “7” or by pressing “A/G” switch on UFCP
3) Use keybind “Electro-Optical System ON/OFF” to turn on TGP. Display on the MFD will
vary based on following factors:

• If you turn on TGP after selecting a weapon that has onboard TV sensor, that
onboard TV sensor will be used for display
• If you turn on TGP after selecting a weapon that has no onboard TV sensor, default
CWS IR view will be displayed
• Whenever you swap to a weapon that has no onboard TV sensor, display will
automatically switch to CWS IR view and will stay like that even if you switch to a
weapon that has onboard TV sensor. In order to use the onboard TV sensor in a
situation like this, you need to press “Electro-Optical System ON/OFF” twice while
the weapon with onboard TV sensor is currently selected.

Page | 8
6) TGP has 2 primary zoom levels and 5 secondary zoom levels. The secondary zoom
levels only work in primary zoom level 2. Use “Radar | Display Zoom In” and “Radar |
Display Zoom Out” key-binds to switch primary zoom levels. Use “Extra Zoom In” and
“Extra Zoom Out” key-binds to switch secondary zoom levels.

7) You can always see where the TDC is currently pointing using the circular notation on
HUD. (See image below)

8) You can move TDC by using key binds “Target Designator Up/Down/Left/Right” and use
“Target Lock” keybind to enter Stabilization Mode. In this mode, the TGP will track a
specific point anywhere on surface based on where you put your TDC. This way you can
track any stationary target or location with the TGP

9) In Stabilization Mode, if you hover the TDC on a ground vehicle, based on the situation,
TGP may automatically start tracking the target. This way you can track moving targets
with the TGP. Exact requirements for this vary from target to target.

9) When within acceptable launch parameters, press “Weapon Fire” to fire weapon.

Now you know the basics of TGP. Next 3 sections will cover some specific use cases.

Page | 9
TV GUIDANCE 4.0
To use TV guided weapons:

1) Use the basics you’ve learned from Section 3.0 to find and track your target using TGP.
2) Press “Weapon Fire” to fire weapon. TV guided weapons are fire and forget.

Weapons that can be used with this method:

Kh-29T
Kh-29TE
KAB-1500KR
KAB-500KR

In the current implementation, only Kh-29T can track moving targets

Page | 10
LASER GUIDANCE 5.0
To use Laser guided weapons:

1) Use the basics you’ve learned from Section 3.0 to find and track your target using TGP.
2) But before launching weapon, make sure to press “Laser Ranger ON/OFF” key-bind to
turn ON the Laser. When ON, “L S R” notation on MFD will have a Box around it.

3) Press “Weapon Fire” to fire weapon. As long as Laser is ON, your laser guided weapon
will go wherever the TGP targeting box is currently tracking. So you must maintain lock
until impact.
4) You can even switch targets while the weapon is still on route to last target location and
the weapon will switch target in real time. You can perform salvo attacks with multiple laser
guided munition in this way if you need to.

Weapons that can be used with this method:

Kh-29L KAB-1500LG-PR
Kh-38MLE KAB-500LG
KAB-1500L GBU-12

Page | 11
GPS, GLONASS & INS 6.0
CWS TGP Stabilization Mode is capable of assigning coordinate to weapons that support
GPS/GLONASS and/or INS. To use weapons with this feature:

1) Be at an altitude, heading and speed from where you can spot the target while
maintaining a good amount distance from it
2) Use the basics you’ve learned from Section 3.0 to find and track your target using TGP.
3) The moment you enter Stabilization Mode by pressing “Target Lock”, CWS will start
feeding the position data of where you are pointing directly to the weapon selected.

4) Now increase speed and altitude so that you can get more range out of your weapon.
5) In the current implementation, weapon launch parameters may not show correctly. So,
you’ll have to use “Launch Permission Override”
6) When within known launch parameters, press “Weapon Fire” to fire weapon. Launch
parameters vary based on the weapon being used

Weapons that can be used with this method:

KAB-500S Kh-36 GBU-38

FAB-500UMPK SAAW
Kh-59M/MK/MK2 Kh-38MAE

Terminal TV guidance of Kh-59 series may be added in a future version of CWS

ELINT MODE 7.0
CWS allows the use of built in ELINT system to identify and target air defense radars of
SAM systems similar to Su25T. This will allow you to perform Suppression of Enemy Air
Defense (SEAD) missions. To use this system:

1) Turn ON Master Arm by clicking the switch(See Section 2.0 for image reference)
2) Enter Air To Ground mode by pressing “7” or by pressing “A/G” switch on UFCP
3) Then turn on ELINT by pressing “I”. You will see “ETS” notation on HUD indicating you
are in ELINT mode.
4) A square shaped Target Designator Cursor(TDC) will appear. All ELINT targets will
appear as Diamonds.
5) You can move TDC by using key binds “Target Designator Up/Down/Left/Right” and
“Target Lock” keybind to Lock target. Locked target will appear as a circle.

6) When within acceptable parameters, use “Launch Permission Override”, then press
“Weapon Fire”.
7) This mode does not require you to maintain lock after weapon is launched. It is fire and
forget
8) Launch parameters will vary based on weapon of choice. Due to the nature of the
sensors involved, it is not possible to show any range indications on HUD

Page | 13
You can use RWR to identify target type. For ease of use, it is best to declutter the RWR
first so that it only shows SAM threats:

In the current implementation of CWS, mounting external ELINT pod is not mandatory.

Weapons that can be used with this method:

Kh-31P
Kh-31PD
RUDRA M1
BRAHMOS SEAD

Page | 14
AIR TO GROUND RADAR 8.0
CWS adds Ground scanning ability to the N011M Bars Radar. In current version this scan
mode is only able to identify and target Ships. You can use AG Radar in Anti-Ship(AS) role
in the following method:

1) Turn ON Master Arm by clicking the switch(See Section 2.0 for image reference)
2) Enter Air To Air mode by pressing “2” or by pressing “A/A” switch on UFCP
3) Then switch to Ground Scan using keybind “Air To Ground Radar”. You will see “SCN
BVR” notation change to “SCN GND” notation on HUD.
4)Now you can also cycle AG/AS weapons by pressing keybind “Weapon Change”

5) This mode is very similar to how the BVR mode for Air to Air functions. Basic operation
of target designator cursor, scan zones, PRF etc are exactly same as Su-33. Just make sure
you are optimizing them to detect ships instead of airborne threats.
6) Similar to BVR mode, each target will appear as a row of horizontal dashes with spaces
in between. If the ship is civilian, it will appear as normal. However, if the ship is non-
civilian, it may try to jam you and hence will appear as a jamming target. In this case, you
will also see “JAM” indication on HUD. (See image in next page)

Page | 15
4) Once you have acquired your target, use “Target Lock” keybind to Lock target. Locked
target will appear as a circle on HUD, showing actual position of the ship in front of you. In
current implementation, range scale only shows minimum range so you will have to know
what the approximate range is for each weapon. When in range, use “Launch Permission
Override”, then press “Weapon Fire”.

Page | 16
5) Anti-Ship weapons are fire and forget.

Weapons that can be used with this method:

Kh-31A
Kh-31AD
Kh-35
Kh-35UE
BRAHMOS A-Ship
