REFLECTION NOTES
Understanding the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers
MY REFLECTION
Today’s session provided a valuable opportunity to revisit the Code of Ethics for
Professional Teachers. As we explored the three main sections—Teachers and the Learners,
Teachers and the State, and Teachers and the Profession—I was reminded of the core
responsibilities we hold, not only as educators but also as role models.
In particular, the section on “Teachers and the Learners” resonated deeply with me, as
it highlighted the importance of fairness, respect, and confidentiality in every interaction with
students. These are things I try to uphold in my own practice, but reflecting on them more
deeply today helped me realize there are even more ways I can consistently show respect for
my students’ dignity and privacy.
The idea that we, as teachers, should model ethical behaviour not only within the
school but also in the broader community really stood out to me. I see this as a challenge and
a reminder that our actions—whether inside or outside the classroom—reflect on the
profession as a whole.
Overall, today’s session reminded me of the high standards we are expected to
maintain and the importance of continuously reflecting on how we live up to them in our
everyday teaching.
