C2 Level – The Ethical Implications of Artificial

Intelligence
Essay:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming society, offering
unprecedented opportunities in areas such as healthcare, transportation,
and finance. However, alongside these benefits, AI raises profound
ethical questions that must be addressed. The primary concern revolves
around autonomy, privacy, and accountability.

One ethical dilemma concerns decision-making. AI systems increasingly

perform tasks that were traditionally the domain of humans, such as
diagnosing diseases or assessing creditworthiness. Delegating these
decisions to algorithms raises questions about bias and fairness. For
example, if an AI system is trained on biased data, it may inadvertently
perpetuate discrimination, impacting vulnerable populations.

Privacy is another critical issue. AI systems can process vast amounts of

personal data, often without individuals' explicit consent. This raises
concerns about surveillance, data security, and the erosion of
personal freedoms. Moreover, accountability remains ambiguous: if an
AI system makes a harmful decision, determining who is responsible—
the developer, the user, or the machine itself—is challenging.

Ethical AI requires transparent algorithms, rigorous oversight, and

continuous societal dialogue. Philosophers, engineers, and
policymakers must collaborate to create guidelines that prioritize
human welfare while embracing technological innovation. Only by
integrating ethical considerations into AI development can society fully
harness its potential without compromising fundamental human values.
