METHODOLOGY

Polit and Hungles, 2008 Research methodology refers to the techniques

used to structure a study and to gather and analyze information in a systemic
fashion. Methodology includes the steps, procedures and strategies for gathering
and analyzing the data in the research investigation.

RESEARCH APPROACH;
Quantitative approach is numeric information that from some type of formal
measurement and that is analyzed with Statistical Procedures. (Polit and beck
2008)
Quantitative research approach is adopted to this study.
RESEARCH DESIGN;
A Research design is the ‘procedures for collecting, analyzing, interpreting
and reporting, data in research studies’. (Creswell and Plano Clark 2007). The
design measured the effect of the experimental and control group based on their
state before beginning of the experiment the level of addiction recovery and
wellbeing assessment, the different achieved at the end of the experiment by doing
post-test.
The research design adopted for this study is one group pre-test,post-test
design.

VARIABLES;

Variables are qualitative, quantities, properties or characteristics of people,

things or situations that change or vary (Sharma 2018)

The variables of the study are as follows:

1. Independent variable:
Structured teaching program.
2. Dependent variable:
Knowledge.

SETTING OF THE STUDY;

Setting is the location for conducting research can be natural, partially
controlled or highly controlled (Sharma 2018)
The study was conducted at Bethlehem Matric Higher Secondary
School,Karungal.

POPULATION;
Population is the total group of individual people or things meeting the
designated criteria of interest to the researcher (B T Basavanthappa 2007).
The study population were the children under the age group of 10-12 years.

SAMPLE;

A smaller part of the population selected in such a way that the individuals in
the sample represent the characteristics of the population (B T Basavanthappa
2007)

The children under the age group of 8-12 years studying at Bethlehem Matric
Higher Secondary School.

SAMPLE SIZE;

Sample size is number of subjects, events, behaviours or situations that are

examined in a study (Sharma 2018)

The sample size for the study will be 60 children.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE;

Simple random sampling technique will be used.

CRITERIA FOR SAMPLE SELECTION;

 Inclusion criteria:
Children who:
 are in the age group of 8 to12 years
 can understand and speak English.
 are willing to participate in the study.
 Exclusion criteria:
Children who:
 are absent on the day of data collection.
