Experiment Title: To study the balanced three phase transformer with Star-Delta or Wye-Delta (Y-Δ)
connection.

Aim:

1. To learn how appropriately model three phase transformer and transformer banks.
2. To understand the phase relationship in Y-Δ connection.

Apparatus:

SL Name Specification Quantity

01 Single Phase Transformer 150V per coil, 1A 03 Nos.
02 Three Phase Variac 0-250V 01 No.
03 AC Voltmeter 0-450V 01 No.
04 AC Supply 3-Phase, 230V, 50Hz

Theory:

The primary winding is star (Y) connected with grounded neutral and the secondary winding is delta
connected. This connection is mainly used in step down transformer at the substation end or sending end
of the transmission line. The ratio of secondary to primary line voltage is 1/√3 times the transformation
ratio. There is 30° shift between the primary and secondary line voltages.
