Review and Reflection

John Merk P. Pinalas

The book Leviticus is part of Pentateuch; this book is concern with different target
of life. It has an important role in God’s word to understand God’s relationship to
humanity

Leviticus is a scared story, it talks about personal, priestly and national Holiness.
We know the Israelite’s neighbors which is the ancient near Eastern nations had done
sacrificial worship including different offerings or rituals to their gods and goddesses. It
is associated with polytheistic cultures, while the Israelites focus on only one God which
shows a lifestyle that emphasizes Holiness and covenant relationship to the Lord.

This book tackles about different sacrifices like burn offerings, cereal offerings,
peace offering, sin offering and guilt offering. Leviticus establishes basic themes such
as law, sacrifices and Holiness. Most importantly, the book came from the tribe of Levi.
The book talks about Israel as redeemed by God, in order for them to become people
worthy of God they must be purified. Leviticus gives emphasis on receiving the
forgiveness of God and by holy living they will be accepted and grow spiritually.

The message of Leviticus was very important to the children of God. It teaches
us how to respond to the Holy and the living Creator who is God, the one who is like no
other God. It is filled with commandments and instructions on how to be Holy as a way
to glorify and please the Lord so that He will continually dwell in our lives just like the
Israelites. It pictures out Christ as our High Priest, even if we are great sinners, Jesus
Christ died on the cross as a sacrificed lamb. He suffered as a substitute lamb for
humanity and made us to be righteous in His sight based on our faith on Him.

Leviticus teaches us that God has the desire to restore our relationship to Him as
demonstrated in the past events of the Israelites. It shows us the unconditional love of
God to His children, even at times that we fail due to our human nature and sinful acts,
there are always room for reconciliation. God wants us to become closer to Him despite
of our imperfections. To love means to sacrifice, what the Lord has done for us may we
emulate and instill in our lives.
