Based on a modified version of Linux Kernel and other open
source software.
Designed primarily for touch screen mobile devices and
tablets.
In addition Google has developed android TV, Android Auto
for Cars and Wear OS for Wrist Watches
Variants of Android also used on Games Consoles, Digital
Camera, PCs and other electronics
Android is a mobile operating system developed by the Google
and open handset alliance(OHA)..

Initially developed by Android Inc, which Google
bought in 2005, Android was unveiled in 2007 with
the first commercial device launched in September,
2008 with the version Android 1.0.
Current stable version is Android 9 “Pie”, released in
August, 2018.
Android "Q" is the upcoming tenth major release and
the 17th version of the Android mobile operating
system. The final release of Android “Q” is
scheduled for release in Q3 of 2019.

There are chances of Android may become the widely
used operating system in world as it has its
application in many appliances such as washing
machines, microwave ovens, cameras, TVs etc.
