Answer the following questions:
• What kind of graph did you use to
represent the data?
• Why did you choose that kind of graph?
• What does each mark on the vertical
axis, or left side of the graph, represent?
• What does each mark on the horizontal
axis, or bottom line of the graph,
represent
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Answer the following questions:
• What scale interval did you use? Is it
appropriate? Why?
• Why is it important that the scale have
equal intervals?
• Were you able to represent all the data
correctly?
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Answer the following questions:
• What can you say about the activity?
• What were your thoughts while doing
the activity?
• Is cooperation evident in your group?
Why/Why not?
• What mathematical skills are we

Importance/Use of Line Graphs
The major importance of a line graph
is that it allows a person to visually
see the relationship between two
major variables. It also allow us to see
trends such as increase or decrease.
We can use line graphs to show a
comparison with events, situations,
and information.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Line Graph vs Bar Graph
Advantages
Line Graph Bar Graph
• shows pattern in • shows pattern in
data data
• show changes • used with
over time countable data
• used to compare
facts about group
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Line Graph vs Bar Graph
Disadvantages
Line Graph Bar Graph
• not best to use • bars nearly the
when counting same length are
objects difficult to compare
• scales can be used
to make small
differences look large
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Line Graph vs Bar Graph
Bar graphs are used to compare facts.
The bars provide a visual display for
comparing quantities in different
categories or groups.
Line graphs are used to display data
or information that changes
continuously over time. It allows us to
see trends such as increase or
decrease. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Double Line Graph
A double line graph has two lines
connecting points to show a continuous
change. Just like a line graph, the lines
can ascend and descend in a double line
graph. A double line graph has two axes.
The x-axis of a double line graph shows
the occurrences and the categories
being compared over time and the y-
axis represents the scale.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Double Line Graph
A scale is a set of numbers that
represents the data and organized into
equal intervals. A double line graph must
have a title, which provides a general
overview of what is being displayed. A
double line graph will also include a key,
which represents the information, event,
and situation being observed.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Activity 2
• Study the graph on the worksheet.
• Describe the overall shape of the
line.
• Why do you think the book sales
went up so much after the first
month.
