The document evaluates activity availability for on-campus dorms at Auburn University, assigning each dorm a rating based on the number of major and minor activities within a 10-minute walking distance. It finds that dorms like South Donahue and the Village have the highest ratings due to their proximity to activity centers like the football stadium and baseball stadium. Recommendations include adding a bus route to improve access to activities for dorms further from activity centers like the University Rec and Intramural Fields.

Project Background

• Colleges are seeking ways to improve the campus

experience.
• University planning must adapt to remain competitive.
• 81% of respondents found that participating in campus
activities helped them feel more at home (Henchy,
2011).
• Auburn markets itself as “walking campus” and must
deliver on that promise.
• University layout must ensure activities are accessible
to on-campus students.
Henchy, A, 2011. The Influence of Campus Recreation Beyond the Gym. Recreational Sports Journal. 35, 174-181.

Recommendations
• University Rec and Intramurals are
currently inaccessible.
• Score could improve by up to 2.4
rating points.
• Add a designated bus route from
Student Center to Rec and
Intramural Fields.
• University should begin phasing
Cambridge out.
