LAGUNA
is a province of the Philippines found in the CALABARZON
region in Luzon. Its capital is Santa Cruz and the province is located
southeast of Metro Manila, south of the province of Rizal, west of
Quezon, north of Batangas and east of Cavite. Laguna almost
completely surrounds Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country.
The province got its name from the Spanish word lago, which
means lake or lagoon.

Laguna is a province rich in natural resources - beautiful
mountains, waterfalls, hot springs, rainforest, fruit and
crop plantation and exotic flowers. All the towns and
cities in the province are blessed with attractive natural
formations sought by tourists, and/or natural resources
that account for its bountiful harvest of crops and
ornamental plants.
POPULATION
The total population of Laguna, as of May 1, 2000, was
1,965,872 persons. This represents an increase of
260,850 persons over the figure in the 1995 Census of
Population.

CLIMATE
Laguna Island Philippines is relatively dry from November to April
and wet during the rest of the year for a small portion near the
southern boundary. The other parts, west of Santa Cruz
municipality, experience a dry season from November to April and
rainy season during the rest of the year. The eastern and southern
most portions do not have distinct season, with rainfall more evenly
distributed throughout the year.
GEOGRAPHY
Laguna Island Philippines has a total area of 175,973
hectares (or about 1,759.7 square kms.), the third largest
province in Region IV. Its size is approximately 3.75
percent of the whole Region IV and about 0.58 percent
of the total land area of the country.

PRODUCTS
Colette’s Buko Pie at Pasalubong is a good
manufacturing and retail business that produces a variety
of pies, rice cakes and pastries, with buko pie as its
carrier product. It also sells native delicacies
(pasalubong) and confections sourced from various
suppliers.
ESPASOL
a delicious kakanin (rice pudding), is just one of the
attractions that the province of Laguna is famous for. It
is made from rice flour cooked in coconut milk, blended
with sweetened coconut strips, rolled into cylinders and
dusted with toasted rice flour for a heavenly melange of
flavors and textures.
LAMBANOG
is wine made from coconut. Lambanog is famous for its
potency that normally carries about 80 to 90 proof
variations. It is mostly produced in Liliw Laguna.
THE FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY
in this part of the province is a sought-after attraction
especially by local tourists. Liliw is now known as the
"Footwear Capital of Laguna" and people all over Metro
Manila are going all the way down South to check out
the latest designs in slip-ons, sandals and slipper

MT. MAKILING
is a potentially active volcano in Laguna province on the
island of Luzon,Philippines. It rises to 1,090 m
above mean sea level.
LAGUNA DE BAY
Laguna de Bay is the Philippines' largest inland water body covering
98,000 hectares and situated at the heart of the CALABARZON (includes
the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal And Quezon) area - the
region's highly urbanized and developed center. The lake is bounded by six
(6) provinces, twelve (12) cities, and forty-nine (49) municipalities, of
which are lakeshore towns. A total of twenty-four (24) sub-basins drain
directly to the lake, with the Pagsanjan-Lumban Rivers System contributing
to as much as 35% of the total inflow to the lake.
PAGSANJAN FALLS
is one of the most famed waterfalls in the Philippines.
The falls have grown into a major tourist attraction for
the region. Pagsanjan is most famous for these falls in
particular. The town itself dates from early Spanish times
and lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Balanac and
the Bumbungan.
TAYTAY FALLS
It is located at the foot of Mt. Banahaw, and stands 1,000
feet above sea level. Found Majayjay Laguna.
RIZAL SHRINE
Rizal Shrine is one of the top tourist attraction in the City of
Calamba. This shrine is the ancestral home and birth place of our
very own Philippine National Hero & Calamba’s greatest son - Dr.
Jose P. Rizal. The original house was destroyed during World War
II but was restored through the supervision of National Artist Juan
Nakpil with the Executive Order No. 145 by President Elpidio
Quirino. It was later then inaugurated in 1950.
ENCHANTED KINGDOM
is a theme park in the Philippines. It is located in
Santa Rosa City, Laguna, about 29 kilometers
(16.1 miles) from Manila. It has a land area of 17
hectares (41 acres). The park is managed and operated
by Enchanted Kingdom Inc., formerly named Amtrust
Leisure Corporation.
UP LOS BANOS
has played an influential role in Asian agriculture and
biotechnology due to its pioneering efforts in
plant breeding and bioengineeringfocusing on the
development of high-yielding and pest resistant crops.
HIDDEN VELLEY SPRINGS
is a tropical rainforest paradise located in Calauan town.
TSINELAS FESTIVAL
Because of the thriving footwear industry, the local government,
through the encouragement of the Southern Tagalog Tourism
Council whose main concern is to develop tourism in Region IV
through the implementation of FESTIVALS, conceptualize the Gat
Tayaw Tsinelas Festival. The festival is dubbed as such in honor of
the towns founder-Gat Tayaw- and its major industry-tsinelas.
