Why I choose this material?

It’s close to the materials I taught in primary school


grade 6 in Don Bosko, it’s about describing animal
characteristics.
Most of it, it’s my recognition in the past where I got
the materials from my junior high school teacher.

What is a
descriptive
text?
It is used to describe animals with
their characteristics, qualities, and
other phenomena that can be
explained.
What is the purpose of that text?

● to explain the characteristics, appearance,


physical features, or anything relate to
what the writer describes about the
animals
Generic Structure

1. Identification or general statements : It introduces or


identifies specific object

2. Descriptions: The parts of a text describe the object
characteristics, appearances, habits or qualities of the
object
1. Focus on specific object as the main
character;
2. Use present tense as dominant tenses;
3. Use action verbs or material process
and behavioral process in giving
additional description regarding action
Language Features and behavior done by the participants
in text;
4. Use adjectives : color, age, size

The difficulty in creating descriptive
text usually lies in the use of
vocabulary and grammar, so we
should continuously give our students
with lots of practices in making
finding new vocabulary and how to
make sentences.

Examples
Chickens are domestic or farm birds. The live span of a
chicken is about 10 to 15 years. The male is larger and more
brightly colored than the female. This is common feature in
birds. The males show off their colorful feathers to attract the
females.
A chicken has a comb on the head and two wattles under the
neck. The male has a larger comb compared to the female. The
male is called a rooster. The female is called a hen while the
young are called chicks. The female is usually ready to lay her
first eggs when she is around six months old.
