Some of MDGs Results
IDA is helping to achieve MDG 1 by providing $15 billion to the
Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative affecting 26 countries and $1.4
billion to social safety net programs in 39 countries.
|  Increased number of people with access to safe water
from 60% in 1990 to 94% in 2008.

 Protected more than 500,000 people through dam
rehabilitation.
   Reduced electricity grid losses 22% between 2002
and 2007.
   A watershed management project in five districts
resulted in a 66% increase in household income.

ith IDA·s help over the last decade, countries have trained
more than 3 million additional teachers, built or renovated
more than 2 million classrooms for 105 million children, and
purchased or distributed about 300 million textbooks.

|     From 2001 to 2008, the number of girls attending


schools jumped from 15,000 to 2.2 million.
   The share of education in Vietnam·s national budget grew
from 7% in 1986 to around 20% in 2008.
   Since 2001, 20 million more out-of-school children have been
able to attend school.
  In the past 5 years, primary net enrollment has increased
by about 15%.
    Girls completing primary school rose from 38% in 2001 to
51% in 2009.

R Some of Our MDG 3 Results
R IDA is helping to achieve MDG 3 by investing in girls· education,
resulting in a 9% increase in girls· primary school completion from
1999 to 2008.
R ü   Gender parity in primary and secondary education
has been achieved, along with a sharp increase in the secondary
certificate pass rate for girls, from 39% in 2001 to 63% in 2008.
R O omen·s membership in microfinance networks
increased from 15% in 1999 to 45% in 2006.

 Sustainable forestry earns about $12.5 million/year, with
women driving one-third of this performance.

R Some of Our MDG 4 Results
R From 1995 to 2007, IDA helped the poorest countries to achieve MDG
4 by reducing under-5 child mortality from 134 deaths per 1,000
children to 105 deaths per 1,000 children.
R     From 2002 to 2006, under-5 mortality dropped by 26%.

 Malnutrition has dropped from 20% to 10% in IDA project
areas.
R ü Infant deaths dropped from 67 deaths per 1,000 live births in
1998 to 54 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2003.
R    From 2006 to 2008, health visits for children ages 2 to 5
increased 133%.

R Some of Our MDG 5 Results
R IDA is helping to achieve MDG 5 by enabling more than 1.5
million women to receive antenatal care.
R O  *ontraceptive use doubled in project areas, from 20%
in 1999 to 36% by 2004.
R A    86% of women received antenatal care in 2008,
compared to 79% in 2004.
R     Deliveries by trained health workers
in-facility jumped to 23% in 2008, from 6% in 2003.

R IDA is helping to achieve MDG 6 by providing prevention, care,
treatment, and mitigation services for those affected by infectious
disease.
R o  A total of 640 HIV/AIDS counseling and testing centers
are in operation.
R   *ondom use increased from 49% to 66% among female
sex workers between 2001 and 2006.
R  In 2010, 90% of children under 5 slept under
insecticide-treated bed nets, compared to 5% in 2003.

R Under the Enhanced HIP* Initiative, IDA has committed more
than $16.4 billion of HIP* debt relief. IDA·s aid for trade financing
rose from $2.4 billion a year between 2002 and 2005 to an average
of $3.9 billion a year in 2007 and 2008.
R  Improved the quality of education through curriculum
reform, teacher training, and better administration of schools.
R O   Provided direct budget support to the
government·s poverty reduction strategy.
R     Up from almost zero in 2002, more than 2 million
telephones now keep Afghans in touch.
