WINDOWS 10

INTRODUCTION
 Windows 10 is a major release of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft.
 It is the successor to Windows 8.1, which was released nearly two years earlier, and itself was released to
manufacturing on July 15, 2015.
 Windows 10 was made available for download via MSDN and TechNet, as a free upgrade for retail copies of
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users via the Windows Store, and to Windows 7 users via Windows Update.
 Windows 10 receives new builds on an ongoing basis, which are available at no additional cost to users, in
addition to additional test builds of Windows 10, which are available to Windows Insiders. Windows 10 received
generally positive reviews upon its original release.
 Microsoft initially aimed to have Windows 10 installed on over one billion devices within three years of its release;
that goal was ultimately reached almost five years after release on March 16, 2020.
 By January 2018, Windows 10 version of Windows worldwide. Windows 10 is a Microsoft operating system for
personal computers, tablets, embedded devices and internet of things devices.
 To upgrade from a previous version of Windows 10, IT or users run the Windows 10 OS installer, which transfers
any applications and software on the previous OS, as well as settings and preferences over to Windows 10
 In addition, organizations can use traditional desktop management software such as Microsoft System Center
Configuration Manager.
This is the version history:
FEATURES
List of the windows 10 OS features:
o Windows 10 Start Menu Returns: It's what Windows 8 detractors have been clamoring for,
and Microsoft has finally brought back the Start Menu.
o Cortana on Desktop: Windows 10 will bring Microsoft’s voice-controlled digital assistant
Cortana to desktop computers to make it easier for you to interact with your device
without lifting a finger. You will be able to search your hard drive for specific files, pull up
photos from specific dates, or launch PowerPoint presentations just by telling your PC to
do so. You can even get Cortana to send an email while you’re working on a spreadsheet,
making multi-tasking much more manageable.
o Microsoft Edge Web Browser: Internet Explorer was replaced by Microsoft Edge, which
features a new rendering engine called Edge HTML. Edge integrates with the Cortana
Digital Assistant to provide voice control, search, and personalized info to users.
o Action centre: Windows 10 will provide a new way to look at all your notifications
in one place. The Action Center appears to replace the Charms menu that slides in
from the right on Windows 8 devices. It collects alerts from your device from all
your apps, similar to the notifications drawers in iOS and Android.

o Universal Apps can be windowed of OS:Microsoft is introducing a new category of

software called Universal Apps, which use the same code but adapt their interface
to the device in your hand. Microsoft is also bundling its own set of Universal apps
with the OS, including Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People & Messaging, and
Mail & Calendar, which function the same way on tablets, and PCs.
PROCESS MANAGEMENT

 Every process contains one or more threads, and the Windows thread is the basic executable unit;
see the next chapter for a threads introduction. Threads are scheduled on the basis of the usual
factors: availability of resources such as CPUs and physical memory, priority, fairness, and so on.
 One or more threads.
 A virtual address space that is distinct from other processes' address spaces. Note that shared
memory-mapped files share physical memory, but the sharing processes will probably use
different virtual addresses to access the mapped file.
 An argument on the stack, from the creating thread, which is usually unique for each thread.
 If you use System Worker Threads do not wait on the work to complete. Doing so defeats the
purpose of queuing the work to be completed asynchronously.

MEMORY MANAGEMENT
o The Windows memory management technique introduced in Windows 10 and
designed to improve the responsiveness of the operating system during heavy
use.
o new memory management feature was introduced.
o This moving of memory pages is referred to as swapping and the paging file is
often referred to as the swap file.
o Because the pages of memory are kept intact as they are stored on the hard disk,
the term virtual memory is often used.
PROTECTION & SECURITY
Windows Security is built-in to Windows and includes an antivirus program called Microsoft Defender Antivirus. (In early
versions of Windows 10, Windows Security is called Windows Defender Security Center).
There are different methods that provide much security to data that is saved in the PC, that are
o Authentication/Verify
o One Time Password
Authentication: It consists of three sub-techniques used in ensuring that users are authentic. These sub-techniques are:
User Key: Users need to enter a key code via a keypad to be allowed to use the system
User Name And Password: The users are allotted a username and a password, that they need to enter in order to use
the PC.
One Time Password: These passwords can only be used once and regularly shape-shifts into another one. The ways of
One Time Password are:
• Random Number: The PC can ask the user for random numbers which are related to the alphabets that are selected.
• Secret Key: The device can create a secret key that is related to user ID.
