Garden
What is a Habitat?
A habitat
 is a place where an animal lives.

For
 Example : Rainforest ,Ocean ,Desert
Smaller habitats like Pond, Garden and

parks.

For
 Example :
An Orangutan lives in the Rainforest.

Ocean

The Ocean is the Biggest Habitat on Earth

Turtle, Fish and many other animals like in the ocean .
Rainforest

The Rainforest is a habitat for millions of Animals

Jaguars, Monkeys ,Snakes, Frogs and Birds live in the
Rainforest.
Desert

The Desert has very little water. Very few Animals can live there.
Camels, Snakes and spiders live in the Desert.
Pond

Fishes ,frogs and other animals

live in Ponds.
Garden

Frogs, ants and other insects live

in a Garden.
What is Reproduction?

 The process of giving birth is called

Reproduction.
How do Animals reproduce?
There are 3 ways to reproduce

1) Some animals Lay eggs to Reproduce.

 They are called OVIPAROUS ANIMALS.
 The eggs hatch into new offspring.
 For example Birds, fishes and reptiles lay eggs to
reproduce.

Fish Egg Crocodile Egg

How do Animals reproduce.

2) Some animals give birth to their offspring.

They
 are called VIVIPAROUS.
The babies develop inside the Mother’s Womb.

Live offspring are born.

The baby drinks their mother’s milk.

For example Cow , Cats and Horses are Viviparous

animals.

3) Some animals do not lay eggs ,the eggs

develop inside the mother’s body and hatch inside.
 They are called OVOVIVIPAROUS.
 The EGGS develop inside the Mother’s Body.
 The mother gives birth to a live offspring.
For example some Sharks are OVOVIVIPAROUS
animals.
A. Herbivores
Herbivores are primary
consumers.
Consumer that eats plants
B. Carnivores

Consumer that
eats animals (meat).
They can be secondary or
tertiary Consumers
C. Omnivores

A consumer

that eats both

plants and animals.
There are 2 Types of living
organism that feed on the remains of
Dead animals or Dead Plants

1. Decomposers
2. Scavenger
Scavenger

Feeds on the bodies

of
dead animals.
Cockroaches :the greatest scavengers
 Cockroaches Have survived for more than 300 million
years. They scavenged dinosaur leftovers long before they
survived on Kitchen leftovers.
Decomposers
Decomposers Breakdown plant waste and
remains of living things into Minerals that
return to soil.
These minerals are then absorbed by plants.
For example Earthworms ,Fungi and moulds.
Vertebrate
Animals
Vertebrate Animals
have an internal
Skeleton
The skeleton has many different bones

Bones are strong and support the body

There are five
different groups:

·Mammals
·Reptiles
·Birds
·Amphibians
·Fish
Mammals
• Characteristics

• Mammals are vertebrates because they have

bones inside their bodies

• Baby mammals feed on their mother's milk.

• They are viviparous animals because they are
born from their mother’s womb.
• They breathe through their lungs.
Marine Mammals
·Not all mammals live on land. Some
mammals live in the sea like the
dolphin, the whale ....
·They also breathe through lungs so
they need to go to the surface from
time to time to breathe.
Flying mammals
·Bats can fly but they are also
mammals.
·Bats are blind but they have big
ears. They use their sense of
hearing to move around.
Reptiles
·Reptiles have dry skin and their body is covered in scales.
·Reptiles are cold-blooded.
·Reptiles breathe air through lungs.
·Reptiles lay eggs, they are oviparous.
·Reptiles have short legs or not legs at all (like snakes)
Birds
·All birds have feathers, but not all birds can fly.
·All birds have wings.
·Birds are warm-blooded.
·All birds hatch from eggs, they are oviparous.
·All birds breathe with lungs.
Aquatic birds

·Penguins are aquatic birds

·They cannot fly
·They breath air through
their lungs
·They are born from eggs,
they are oviparous
·They eat eat fish, squids ...
Amphibians
Amphibians are cold-blooded.
Ambhibians are animals that are born in water and grow to
live on land.
·Amphibians lay eggs in water, they are oviparous.
·Amphibians breathe with gills when they are small, and
then with lungs when they are adults.
·Frogs, toads are all examples of amphibians.
Fish
·All fish breathe with gills.
·The live in water.
·They can swim using their fins.
·Their bodies is covered in scales.
·They are oviparous.
·Fish are cold-blooded animals.

Earthworms
They breath through
their Skin .Their skin
needs to stay moist to
allow the passage of
dissolved oxygen into
their bloodstream.
Earthworm skin is
coated with mucus, and
they need to live in a
humid, moist
environment.

Plants

 They make their own food

 They cannot move about
 Most of them can be seen with the naked eye.
 They are of different sizes ,from tiny moss to large trees.
Algae

 Like plants they also make their own food using sunlight.
 They live in water.
 Algea do not have leaves root or stems.
 Some can be seen with the naked eye and others can be seen
with a microscope. Eg. Seeweed and Microalgae
Fungi

 They feed on other living organism. They are decomposers

 Some fungi can be seen with the naked eye , for others we need a
microscope to observe them.
 They cannot move about.
 Some fungi produce Mushrooms. The main part of the Fungi grows
underground.
 Ex. Mushrooms, Yeast and Moulds.
Bacteria
 Bacteria are the smallest and simplest group of living things.
 Some Bacteria make their own food, other bacterias feed on living things.
 Some bacteria inside our body are useful and help us breakdown and digest our
food.
 Other bacterias inside our body can cause illnesses.
 Some bacterias are very useful and are used to make yogurt, cheese ,vinegar and
medicines.
 We need a microscope to observe them.
Animals

 They cannot make their own food.

 They eat other living things
 They can move about freely
