making. He was honored in 2012
•Magdalena Gamayo is a master weaver
from Pinili, Ilocos Norte, renowned for her
Inabel weaving. She received the award in
2012.

•Benedicto Cabrera/Bencab is a
filipino painter and was awarded
national Artist of the Philippines for
visual arts in 2006. He was “arguably
the best-selling painter of his
generation of Filipino artists” and

representational but technique focused and
style-oriented (e.g. Grey Tree by Piet

•Weaving is the art of interfacing threads or
fibers to create textiles, fabric or other similar
product.
•Pottery is the art and craft of making pots and
other wares using clay or mud.
•T’nalak is a traditional cloth made by a group
of people in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato called
T'bolis, this traditional cloth is hand-woven
made of Abaca fibers
•Fernando C. Amorsolo was posthumously
recognized as the ‘Philippines’ first National
Artist on April 28, 1972, and known as the
“Grand Old Man of Philippine Art”.
•Guillermo E. Tolentino was awarded as
National Artist for sculpture in 1973 and some
of his major work art the Bonifacio Monument
in Caloocan and Oblation in UP, Diliman.
•Line is an element of art which is a
mark with length and direction.
•Texture is an element of art which is
the surface quality or “feel” of an
object, its smoothness, roughness,
softness, etc., it may be actual or
implied.
