- Think of it as your first draft
attempt to get your ideas down on
paper without worrying about :
- spelling, punctuation,
- capitalization, and grammar.
Revising

What is an essay
?

An essay is a group of paragraphs


about one subject. It contains one
key idea about the subject, which is
called the thesis statement. Each
paragraph in the essay supports or
explains some aspect of the thesis
Parts of an
essay

1.Introduction ( Introductory
paragraph)
2.Body (one or more paragraphs)
Introductory
Paragraph
Introductory paragraph should
have three things:
1. It should introduce and establish the
topic of the essay.
2. It should present the thesis statement of
the essay in a way appropriate to its
intended audience.
3. It should create interest in the reader of
the essay.
The
body
The body of the essay should
accomplish three things
1. It should provide information that supports
and explains thesis statements
2. Each main supporting point should be
presented in its own separate paragraph.
3. Each paragraph should contain enough
detailed information to make its main point
understandable and believable.
The Concluding
Paragraph

Concluding paragraph should


accomplish two things
1.It should reemphasize but not
restate the thesis statement
2.It should draw the essay to
close.
