for heat transfer to occur.
EXPLORE:
Activity 1. Getting Warm, Let it Cool!
Objective:
Infer the conditions necessary for the heat transfer to
occur and answer the given guide questions in your
Science notebook.
Activity 1. Getting Warm, Let it Cool!
A. DIRECTIONS:
Boil water using heater.
Note: Boil the water ahead of time.
Guide Question:
1. Have you tried boiling a water?
2. During boiling, which do you think gets
warm first, the water at the bottom part or
at the top? Why?
Very good
observation!
Activity 1. Getting Warm, Let it Cool!
B. DIRECTIONS:
Pour hot water in a cup. Put your palm
over the cup of hot water. Observe
what happens.
Guide Question:
What happened when you place your
palm over the cup of hot water? Why?
Very good
observation!

C. DIRECTIONS:
Observe the given
setups and read the
procedure below .
PROCEDURE:
1. In this Activity, there are three setups given
set-up A, B, and C. The set-up has a bowl
filled with tap water and a cup filled with hot
water. Using a thermometer, each set-up is
being measured. In set up A, a cup filled with
hot water is put on a bowl filled with tap
water, its initial time is 0 minutes and its
temperature is being measured.
PROCEDURE:

2 minutes.. 10
minutes.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:

1. What happened to the

temperature of Tap water
and Hot water in Set-up A?
PROCEDURE:

2. After 2 minutes, measure

the temperature in set-up B
both tap and hot water.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:

2. After 2 minutes, make an

inference based on what you
have observed in the
temperature of tap and hot
water in Set-up B.
PROCEDURE:
3. In set-up C, after 10 minutes,
measure the temperature in a cup
filled with hot water and in a bowl
filled with tap water.

Note: Let the learners watch the video while

waiting for the 10 minute-timer.
Activity 2: Know Me How!
VIDEO CLIP PRESENTATION

Direction:
Infer the conditions necessary for heat
transfer to occur from the given video clip.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:

3. Describe the temperature

of both tap and hot water in
Set-up C after 10 minutes.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:

4. Based on your observation of the

boiling water, three set-ups and
placing your palm over the cup of
hot water, infer the necessary
conditions for heat transfer to take
place.
PROCEDURE:

4. Consolidate the collected

temperature with time in
the table 1 below.

4. What are the three ways of

heat transfer in as shown in
the video and illustration in
Figure 1?
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

5. Based in the Activity on

boiling water and placing of
your palm over the cup of hot
water, what method of heat
transfer took place?
ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

6. In your day to day living,

how can you infer the
conditions necessary for heat
transfer to occur? Give
examples.
VERY GOOD CLASS!
Key Concept:

The necessary conditions for heat transfer to

take place is the difference in temperature
between two objects. The heat flow from the
region of higher temperature to the region of
lower temperature. Heat stops when both
objects are of the same temperature. When
heat is absorbed by a body, its temperature
increases, and when the heat is given off by a
