INTRODUCTION
 Project Soli, developed by
Google's Advanced Technology
and Projects (ATAP) group, is a
technology that uses radar to
detect and interpret human
motions and gestures
 Soli enables users to control
devices with precise hand
movements, without
physically touching the
device.
 Project Soli is a gesture
recognition technology that uses
miniature radar to detect
touchless gesture interactions
Soli chip
 The Soli chip incorporates the entire sensor and antenna array
into an ultra-compact 8mm x 10mm package.

………
 It consists of 2 transmitting antennas and 4 receiving antennas
and uses Doppler effect.

………
 Soli has no moving parts, it fits onto a chip and consumes

………
little energy.

 The radar has the interaction sensor running at 60GHz

......
frequency, 5mm wavelength and has a range of 0.5- 5m range.

 Its field of view is 350 degree.

How Does Project Soli Work?
Hardware
1/3.Soli sensor technology works by emitting electromagnetic waves in a broad
beam.

2/3.Objects within the beam scatter this energy , reflecting some portion back
towards the radar antenna.
Hardware
3/3.Properties of the reflected signal , such as energy , time delay, and
frequency shift capture rich information about the object’s characteristics and
dynamics , including size , shape, orientation, material distance, and velocity
software
 The Soli software architecture consists of a generalized gesture
recognition pipeline which is hardware agnostic and can work
with different types of radar.

 The pipeline implements several stages of signal abstraction

 raw radar data to signal transformations

software
• Core and abstract machine learning features

• Detection and tracking

• Gesture probabilities

• UI tools to interpret gesture controls.

Gesture Recognition
 Data Preprocessing: signal enhancement
 Feature Extraction:Key parameters like Doppler shifts
 Model Training: machine learning model
 Gesture Classification:Real-time radar signals are fed into
the model
 Feedback Loop:Algorithms learn and improve from user
feedback
Technical Specifications of
Project Soli

• Radar frequency: 60 GHz

• Radar resolution: 1 mm
• Gesture recognition accuracy: 95%
• Power consumption: 1 mW
Why Radar
 Insensitive to the light.

 Can transmit over plastic materials like polycarbonate.

 3D gesture recognition possible.

 Recognition of overlapping fingers.

 Sub-millimeter resolution with micro-Doppler and time analysis.

Applications
 Soli will play a crucial role in the
future of wearable technology,
mobile interactions , smart
appliance, Iot, mobile VR & AR
systems.

 Currently soli is working with LG smartwatches and

JBL for consumer products which are expected to be
released next year
Applications
Soli Radar-Based
Perception and
Interaction in Pixel 4
The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are optimized for ease of
use, and a key feature helping to realize this goal
is Motion Sense
Conclusion
 No doubt the next break through technology for
electronic gadgets provie a high accuracy input to
devices by Soli

 Soli technology will play a crucial role in the future

of wearable and mobile interactions, smart
applicances and Internet of things , Mobile VR and
AR systems, interactive robots and drones.
