QUESTIONS
1.When you first arrived in this country, what were some of the biggest challenges
you faced?
Fitting in the society as a working force using my talents while overcoming the
language barrier
2.How did you feel when you
first saw the people here? Were there any differences that stood out to you?
Not really they were very friendly and we had fun spotting the differences.
3.Was it easy or hard for you to make new friends and connect with people here?
I wouldn’t say it was easy, again with the language barrier so I found it easier to make
new friends with the English speaking citizens.
4.Did you experience any moments when you felt especially welcomed or especially
unwelcome? Can you share any stories?
I experienced both, when we first arrived 11 years ago, everybody was very
welcoming, neighbors, school, music institute and university where I taught, as years
QUESTIONS
1.How did you adjust to the language, food, and culture of this country?
What was the hardest part?
Adjusting to food and culture wasn’t that big of a problem , however in my
field of work involves working with English speaking colleagues ,therefore
my language skills are pretty limited.
2.What did you miss most about your home country when you first moved
here?
Friends and relatives and some daily life habits, like walking down specific
roads while grabbing some street snacks while listening to the morning
music that is played on almost every corner.
3.Has your view of this country changed over time? What do you like most
about living here now?
It has changed for the better as I feel that it is my second home now , it is
full of lovely simple people and it is the place that my kids enjoy their time
QUESTIONS
1.What do you wish people here understood better about your culture or
background?
I wish that they looked at us as a modern civilized society and no only as a
country torn by war.
2.How do you think your experience as an immigrant has shaped who you
are today?
Starting from scratch was the hardest part and if you manage to do that
you can manage everything, I become more understanding for all different
types of backgrounds.
Have you ever faced any misunderstandings or difficulties because of
being from a different country? How did you handle those situations?
Yeees, once my kids piano teacher asked us if we used alphabet, which felt
very awkward since we came from the country that created alphabet
historically
