REINFORCEMENT LEARNING
FOR EMBEDDED ROBOTICS
TRAINING ROBOTS TO PERFORM TASKS
AUTONOMOUSLY USING
REINFORCEMENT LEARNING.
WHAT IS REINFORCEMENT
LEARNING (RL)?
RL is a machine learning technique
where an agent (robot) learns by trial
and error, improving over time through
rewards and penalties rather than
explicit programming.
WHAT IS REINFORCEMENT
LEARNING (RL)?
• This is important in robotics because it allows robots to adapt
to changing environments without needing constant human
intervention.
• Instead of following predefined instructions, the robot learns
by interacting with its environment, improving its
performance over time.
WHAT IS REINFORCEMENT
LEARNING (RL)?
HOW RL
WORKS?
Reinforcement Learning relies on three main
components:
1.Agent – The robot that makes decisions.
2.Environment – The space where the robot operates.
3.Reward System – Provides feedback (positive for
correct actions, negative for mistakes).
HOW RL
The robot
WORKS?
continuously takes actions, observes
outcomes, and adjusts its approach to maximize
rewards. Some popular RL techniques include:
• Deep Q-Networks (DQN) – Helps robots make
decisions based on past experiences.
• Policy Gradient Methods – Improves decision-
making through learning policies.
• Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) – Ensures stable
and efficient learning.
APPLICATIONS OF RL IN
ROBOTICS
Reinforcement Learning is used in
various industries, including:
• Autonomous vehicles – Self-driving
cars learn how to navigate roads.
• Industrial robots – Manufacturing
robots optimize tasks like assembling
products.
• Drones – RL helps drones navigate
and make real-time adjustments in
delivery services.
CHALLENGES IN RL FOR
ROBOTICS
• High computational cost – Requires
large amounts of data and time.
• Safety concerns – Testing RL-based
robots in real environments can be
risky.
• Training complexity – It’s difficult to
design effective reward systems for
learning.
