Course Goals
This course aims to upgrade students’ critical thinking
abilities by responding to the issues addressed in the textbook.
Students can observe how real-life speakers adopt effective
language and communication skills to deliver their ideas. The final
project of this course, including a written report and an oral
presentation is to further improve not only language skills but also
presentation skills. The assignment which requires students to read,
write, and talk about one of the major global issues of their choice
can sharpen their analytical thinking skills needed for academic as
well as professional tasks.
Grading Criteria
Important Note: The highest possible score is 95, not 100.
1. easy test 15% (FLC will announce more details, including the time and
place, regarding the test later.)
2. mid-term exam 35%
4. second exam (online learning: 2 EASY TEST Model tests) 30%
5. Final project:

For you final project, you need to choose a
significant issue and respond to the five
questions in your written and oral reports.
In the written and oral report, you are required to respond to
each of the questions below.
1. What is the issue you’ll explore in your written and oral
reports?
2. What is the significance of this topic? That is, what can your
audience “benefit” from your reports?
3. What are the possible effects or problems of this issue?
4. What are the possible solutions or coping strategies to deal
with this problem?
5. Which solution do you think is more practical, feasible, cost-
effective, and workable than the other solutions?
Important Note:
1. Your written report must be uploaded to
Moodle by the day before your oral
presentation. Otherwise, you will not be
permitted to present.
2. You need to reschedule your
presentation time.
