Why I'm here
I've spent most of my life learning about Jesus and working for him, but it wasn't until I was in my late forties that I actually began learning how to be with him and become more like him. I asked, “Why the HECK didn’t the church teach me this stuff??!?”
This is where I share what I've been learning (and un-learning).
Also as an extrovert, I'd much rather learn with and from others…so I’ll hope you’ll chime in and make this a group effort!
What's with the title?
Breadcrumbs and mustard seeds represent how I see God at work in the world and how he invites us to join in it.
Breadcrumbs 🍞
I've often said that God rarely gives us a 10-year strategic plan and, more often than not, reveals our path to us one tiny step at a time.
Our invitation is to find the breadcrumb trail he's laying out for us, not because he is a stingy God, but because he is a compassionate God — he knows we’d freak out if we knew where we were going!
All we need to do is find the daily bread he has for us today and that is enough…rinse and repeat. Before we know it, we’ll look back over where we’ve been and where we are now and marvel at how we got here.
Mustard Seeds 🌱
The world, with all its cacophony and spectacularly shiny things, is always calling us to the big and flashy.
Yet Jesus consistently chose to pay attention to the small and hidden things because that's where the real power lies.
It lies in the regular rhythm of making small (but not insignificant) choices and surrendering the outcomes to God. Our invitation is to faithfully plant tiny mustard seeds of faith by doing whatever Jesus asks us to do, no matter how big or small.
This blog will share some of the "tiny habits" that have helped me find God's breadcrumbs along my journey. It will also offer some of my musings on how to answer the call, as Mother Teresa put it, to be faithful, rather than successful.
By “growing small,” my hope is that we would discover our true callings and selves so we can live out the lives we were created for. I believe it is then that we’ll see the grandiosity of God’s handiwork in our lives! (Eph. 2.10)

*Note: For better or worse, I am committed to refraining from the use of generative AI to write my content. Not only because it’ll decrease the likelihood of inadvertent plagiarism, but also…my brain needs the extra exercise. 😝
Discover old and new (to you) spiritual practices
Like any healthy relationship, you gotta keep things fresh! Ironically, some of the most “novel” ways of engaging with God have been around for centuries and just need to be rediscovered.
I’ll share FREE blog content on spiritual formation and other faith-related topics, perhaps about once a month (for now—we’ll see…I’m terribly undisciplined) and a buffet of FREE resources from my various platforms (YouTube, Instagram, etc.).
Can you tell I’m very big on FREE stuff? After Jesus, it’s my fave.
I love finding old and new ways to connect with Jesus and sharing them with others. Even better, I love learning about these practices from people like you!

About Me
I’m a former youth pastor who “retired” to raise our kids and accidentally became a soul coach and spiritual director when I discovered I couldn’t return to youth ministry after my husband became a senior pastor.
I have the unbelievable privilege of guiding and walking alongside people in their faith journey as a soul coach, formation group facilitator at Fuller Seminary, and sabbatical coach and spiritual director at Soul Care.
My mind is blown that I get to do this small but significant work every day. Seriously, if you knew me any time between middle school and college, you’d know that God is incredibly gracious and has a wicked sense of humor.
You may be asking…
What the heck is Substack? It's basically a cross between a blog and an email newsletter…but on steroids 😂. Here's an explanation in less than 60 seconds by a very groovy dude, if you need it:
Or if you prefer, you can read this great overview of Substack instead.
My posts are always free so that they can reach whoever needs them. If you like what you see, please share them with your friends so they can join in on the fun. The more, the merrier!
If you’ve made it this far, WOW! You’re a better person than I am 😂. I’m so tickled you’re here and I can’t wait to get to know you a little better—see you soon!
