UPHOLSTERY – BRING YOUR OWN CHAIR – MONDAY EVENINGS
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-monday-eve-16/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/upholstery-bring-your-own-chair-monday-eve-16/) **⋆⋆⋆** KEY PROJECT: RE-UPHOLSTERING YOUR OWN CHAIR. Suitable for beginners and fun for advanced learners. This workshop is led by Krasmira Nikolova, an experienced upholsterer. We provide the use of all upholstery tools and equipment including compressed air staple guns. Basic upholstery materials that you require for your project will be moderately charged on a pay-as-you-use basis and will be dependent on each chair’s requirements. We can advise you on the purchase of your top fabric and we have a lovely library of fabric samples to help make up your mind. The Goodlife Centre sells all the basic tools and materials for use on projects worked on at home. This is a fantastic chance to up-cycle and personalise a family piece you have at home or a junk shop find and a great way to immerse yourself into the wonderful world of upholstery. The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise. **Choosing a suitable chair** If you are a newcomer to upholstery, there are a couple of pointers to help you choose a chair to work on. Choose something that has one or two flat planes – a seat and a back – as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve. The chair on the right was completed in about 12 weeks. If you are a complete beginner, you could bring something more simple such as an upholstered footstool. More experienced upholsters can bring more complex pieces. Your chair can be traditionally built or modern, but be aware that some modern pieces have been constructed using machinery and are difficult to recreate by hand. [Click here for a detailed PDF of suitable chairs.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2r8UvbQtaH5RTVKUjlBdkhDX3c/view?usp=sharing) **Please email [email protected] with a photo of your chair prior to the course so we can answer any suitability questions and advise if your chair is suitable**. We have very limited storage at the centre, so we can only store smaller pieces during the course. Please make sure the total dimensions are less than 1000mm high by 750mm wide, with a depth of 750mm. Available on Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 9pm. The use of tools and machinery is included. All materials will be charged at nominal rates. Some materials will not be kept in stock but can be ordered. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.

Queer Spirit Full Moon Imbolc Circle
Queer Spirit Full Moon Imbolc Circle
Radical Faeries and Queer Spirits gather in south London at the solar festival of Imbolc, the day before the Imbolc Full Moon in Leo. Sun and Moon energies synchronising here make this a powerful turning point as we approach the end of the year of the wood snake (getting ready for the fire horse) and the end of Neptune and Saturn's time in Pisces, these two planets also lifting our consciousness into the fire territory after the challenging water journey that's been peaking these past months as the spirit prepares us for incoming new vibrational fields. Imbolc is the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox, from this point the promise of magic is in the air, days are longer and the Aquarian spirit flows forth strongly. Imbolc is the festival of Brigit, the maiden goddess and is associated with divination, poetry and fire. A time to dress up and pray! Leo Full Moon is where we get to uniqueness we each bring to the Aquarian collective consciousness. So also a good time to dress up and play! Take a break from hibernation, come pray, play and warm yourself in queer love ritual - your host Shokti is also celebrating his birthday on this night! (I had a low key 60th so let's make some noise on my 61st!) Drumming, dancing, social. Dress to express your Faerie spirit! We gather from 7 to set up the space and cast circle around 8pm, then drum, dance and socialise through the evening There are lots of drums and percussion to use. you can also bring your own. also welcome to bring snacks to share and your own liquid refreshments donation requested to cover venue hire. £5/£10 as you can afford, cash on door or PayPal to [PayPal.Me](https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/shokti) NOTAFLOF - No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds. These changes have reshaped how data teams build, operate, and govern their pipelines. In this session, our speaker will share insights from the State of Airflow 2026 report, including: * Latest trends in how teams are using Airflow today * What’s next for the project and ecosystem * A discussion of emerging best practices and evolving use cases Join us to hear directly from a leader in the community and discover how to get the most out of Airflow in the year ahead. ***Talk #2: Building the Apache TinkerPop Provider for Airflow*** * **Speaker**: [Ahmad Farhan](https://www.linkedin.com/in/atfarhan/), Data Engineer Graph databases are powering everything from recommendation engines to fraud detection, but integrating graph operations into modern data pipelines has often required custom code and workarounds. Earlier this year, Ahmad built a new Apache TinkerPop provider for Airflow, making it easier than ever to orchestrate Gremlin queries, manage graph workloads, and connect Airflow to TinkerPop-enabled systems. In this session, you’ll learn: * What the TinkerPop provider does and why it matters for graph-based workloads * How to run Gremlin queries and manage graph jobs directly within Airflow * Real examples from the development process, including design decisions and lessons learned * How this provider opens the door for new use cases in graph analytics and data engineering Join us to explore how Airflow and TinkerPop can work together to streamline graph workflows and unlock new patterns in modern data pipelines. **AGENDA** * **5:30-6 PM:** Arrivals, networking, food & drinks * **6-7:05PM:** Presentations * **7:05-8PM:** Networking

Woodland Imbolc Ritual London)

Thanks** * **You can offer cash fee at start of ritual, or book in advance via our Eventbrite page. link in comment section!** In Pagan & Magical traditions, Imbolc is the time when the Crone/ Winter Goddess loosens her grip on the land, so that the ice melts and waters flow again. It is when the Goddess Bride (Brigid) \`returns’ to us, having spent time in deep caverns of the Earth, resting & regenerating (supposedly after giving birth to the SunChild)! Her path is lit by candles, symbolising the return of light and warmth which is imminent. Bride is a Goddess of poetry, inspiration, healing, knot-magic and weaving. As she returns to us, Brigid brings the gifts of 3 flames - purification, Creativity and Healing! In this Ceremony, we create a sacred altar with statues, candles, inecnse, magical charms, arts.crafts & decorations, adding wooden logs & foliage we find in the woods, and plenty of LED lights! We light a path to the altra area with small candles and string lights. We \`Call on the Goddess' with a group invocation (read, line by line and repeated), , and a choosen young lady, wearing a crown of lights, walks along to altar, and taking on the symbolic role of Brigid. She may then read some poetic words we have prepared and printed out. .. as a symbolic Blessing given by the \`Goddess Brigid' to the gathered people. This ritual event starts in the evening.. So bring torch lights for later. Or better still, bring a lantern for the circle and altar and to walk in the woods. **Magic:** We will be briefly using flaming torches (yes real ones, carefully) for all attendees to pass between flames as a magical act of purification. Leo Full moon Ritual - Sekhmet Protection magic (Feb'26) -Central London
**A Call to Magic for Global Safety** Come join me in a special ritual, when the moon is still waxing in the sign of Leo, to make a sacred circle and call upon one of the fiercest goddesses in myth and legends. Sekhmet the Lion-headed warrior Goddess. Normally in our Sekhmet rituals at Leo new moons, we invoke and calm her rage and thirst with beer and wine. This time, however, on a waxing leo full moon, we shall invoke her and petition her to vanquish warmongering tyrants. The how and where and when - we leave to the wisdom of the warrior Goddess! **Wars are nothing new -** sadly! But now, a dark force is rising fast in the western world - and some tyrrants have managed to unravel centuries of peace, and driven by whims and egos, they theaten to instigate a new wars! Many people would think this will pass. Others will say its all Fated. More will say there are lessons to be learnt and we must not interfere! Evil wins and when good people do nothing. And while politicians are paralysed and very measured in their reactions, can we Witches and magicians really afford to sit and wait? Come stand in a ritual Circle - and Call this warrior Goddess Goddess to stop these Tyrannt.! **RITUAL what to expect** \-\-\-\- * We start with a brief **pathworking** \- a guided visualisation for stillness and energy opening\. 🚀Explore The Night Sky + Post Pub Drinks🔭(Subject to Weather)🪐
🌌Ever look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at both the beauty and wonder of the **universe?** That wild sobering thought that somewhere in the chaos of creation - the emergence of life - the universe became **conscious** enough to look back and ask the fundamental questions; How it all started, our evolution and place in it, and where else in the cosmos other complex life might exist (we know almost every star you see has planets orbiting with up to **20 billion habitable exoplanets** easily in our galaxy alone!)? 🪐🌟🌟🌟 🌍Then RSVP to view the potential life harbouring moons of **Jupiter**, comets, the famous **Orion Nebula** where stars like our sun were born, the majestic rings of **Saturn**, the international space station, well known star fields, remnants of **supernova** witnessed by our early ancestors, multi-star solar systems (think the double sun in Starwars), the Tau Ceti star with **2 Earth like planets** orbiting in the habitable zone, plus a range of other fascinating celestial wonderments (comets, galaxies) over drinks and engaging chats and banter this Jan fully hosted by a passionate amateur astronomer and former global Journalist covering big picture stories including cutting edge science related ones. 🚀In between observing - we'll have **drinks and engaging chats** on all astronomy related topics for those inclined - space exploration, Fermi Paradox, Astrobiology, Cosmology, paleontology, SETI/Drake Equation (I have my own augmented version giving more realistic estimates of likely alien civilisations!), exoplanetology etc as well as non space chatter and banter too. No doubt we'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard before! If those don't make you laugh, my impersonation of Los Angeles ET will! 👽 And to help set the mood and make the night feel even extra galactic, I’ll put my DJ hat to play some space‑themed tunes and songs about the stars! **======= Joining Astronomers Group & Telescopes =======** I'm able to take a limited number of people (please only RSVP if you can make it) to join my friendly informal relaxed London amateur astronomers' club that have been for over a decade with their regulars made up of up to about 150 people. As there will be people attending from this private Astronomers group as well as others from one of my other groups - the total attendees will be far higher than rsvps here and the public liability insurance only covers a max number of people - hence I need to impose strict limits on attendance. Over the years we have enjoyed numerous social evenings of stargazing and thought provoking chatter with people of all ages and varying levels of astronomy knowledge - so complete beginners that are genuinely curious about the universe are very welcome. If you are just looking to meet generic randoms then there are others groups that will better cater for that. The world renowed **BBC Television Sky at Night** also attended our events pre covid and interviewed some of us for it's show that aired on BBC1 in Feb 2019. BBC **Radio London** (94.9 FM / digital) were there Aug 2023 to cover our meteor shower event broadcasting live to millions of Londoners for 3 hours You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie **==== Food & Drinks With Seating From Warm Indoor Cafe ====** Alcoholic beverages (wine, beer, cider only), hot drinks and food/snacks will be available to purchase from an indoor cafe at the observation point which Regent's park keep open exclusively for the astronomers group so please don't bring your own drinks **==== ITINERARY =====** We will meet outside Camden Station. After a short wait for anyone delayed, I will escort everyone to our observation point in the local park 15 minutes walk away and brief you in terms of what to expect, observing etiquette, tips, equipment handling and take any questions you have - weather general or astronomy/cosmology related. **After Drinks:** Unless I have a very important 9AM Thursday deadline for a client presentation or something that I'm still gonna be writing 2 mins before start - most of us usually head our way back to Camden for another drink. If so - I will annouce the pub when we leave the park **==== What Can You Expect To See (this time of year)? ====** * Orion Nebula * Jupiter and 4 moons * Meteors * Andromedia Galaxy * Saturn, rings & moon * Star clusters such as the Pleiades & Owl Cluster etc * International Space station fly by * Venus & Mercury * Binary & tripple star systems (think planet *Tatooine in* Starwars!), * Neptune * Uranuus * Mars * Our moon * A look towards the galactic centre where that supermassive £22b Labour black hole sits (Sagittarius A) More here from Jodrell Bank Observatory/Astrophysics Centre: [http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/](http://www.jb.man.ac.uk/astronomy/nightsky/) Guide to viewing the cosmos for beginners: [https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp](https://phys.org/news/2018-05-universe-distant-starstips-cosmology-backyard.html#jCp) **===Weather Dependent=====** The event is subject to clear skies forecasts on the night so if on the actual afternoon of the event the weather forecasts looks unsuitable beyond doubt then I will postpone so please check the event status on the day of the event . Space & Humanism in Fiction & Reality
Space & Humanism in Fiction & Reality
**An illuminating and entertaining talk exploring the themes of space and humanism in literature and reality** Humans live for stories, and we love seeing ourselves reflected in them. After all, fiction is often used both as metaphor and mirror of our society. Alfredo will talk about space and astronomy in the real universe and in the many imagined ones - and how that often overlaps with the expectation and representation of humanists. Following the talk, after a refreshments interval, there will be a Q&A, and we invite people to suggest their favourite fictional representation of a humanist and/or scientists for a lively debate on how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. **Speaker** Dr Alfredo Carpineti (he/him): is a queer Italian astrophysicist, science journalist, and social activist. He is the Senior Staff Writer & Space Correspondent for IFLScience where he has worked for 10 years, writing over 6,000 articles that have been read by millions. He is the author of the upcoming pop astronomy book Invisible Rainbows. He is the chair and founder of Pride in STEM, an award-nominated British charity dedicated to supporting and showcasing LGBTQIA+ in STEM and founder of the International Day of LGBTQIA+ People in STEM. Event being hosted by Central London Humanists who ask for a **£5 donation to attend** this talk, which can be paid on the door. (Or pay what you can afford.) **Our events are 18+ unless accompanied by a parent or guardian**. We encourage dialogue, debate, and sharing of information, but ask people to keep their comments cordial. Any individual's views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views of the group at large.
