I moved ~1,200 lbs of logs from one side of the garage to the other. I never really thought I would move appreciable fractions of a ton of anything by hand before I owned a house. Luckily I didn't have to go up.

Boss said a farmer was interested in the maple dumped at the farm. He asked me if I wanted any/all. Of course I do, but I declined. I can't guarantee I can remove it all, so if someone else can, great.

However, I've moved into overdrive bringing it home. I usually split on-site, but I've been bringing rounds home to maximize efficiency. I split today's haul after getting it home. In front of the house, staged for the porch late season/next year depending on how dry it gets.

Light colored maple split and stacked on a pallet. It's next to a concrete driveway. An old rusty milkcan is next to it, and boxwood bushes behind, Leaves cover the ground.

I get particular joy out of carefully stacking the wood, so it interlocks, and holds itself together.

Quiz time kids... What happens when wood dries? Anybody?

Yes! That's right! Wood shrinks, and it can deform and twist a little as it dries.

Any guesses as to what happens to my carefully interlocked pieces?

You'd think I'd learn, but it's the same every time. The stack sheds pieces, and sometimes fully collapses. It's part of my exercise program handling wood several times :^D

      Jenga time!

A corner stack of firewood with alternating rows of split logs arranged perpendicular to the previous layer for stability. The view is from the ground up to a lean-to roof. A grape is growing over the open side.
