Dr. Kwasniewski’s Lectures in Spain — Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, Madrid, Segovia, Oviedo — July 18 to 25, 2025

I’m pleased to share with Rorate readers the themes and schedule for my lecture tour in Spain later this month. Between July 18 and 25, I’ll be speaking on the traditional Roman liturgy in Seville, Cordoba, Toledo, Madrid, Segovia, and Oviedo, then participating in the 3-day pilgrimage to Covadonga. Lectures will be given in English with a Spanish translation provided.

Announcing the Next DC-Arlington Pilgrimage in Support of the Traditional Latin Mass on September 9!

Before 2021, the Diocese of Arlington and Archdiocese of Washington demonstrated precisely how Summorum Pontificum-- allowing the widespread celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass-- injected life and energy into the Catholic Church. The TLM was regularly celebrated at nearly 30 parishes across the two dioceses. It attracted growing numbers of faithful Catholics, supported the reverent celebration of the Novus Ordo, and nurtured vocations.

New opera by Father Munkelt

Anyone who attends the traditional Latin Mass in the northeast states of the U.S. has likely encountered Father Richard Munkelt, who has been in-residence at Saint Anthony of Padua (run by the Institute of Christ the King) in West Orange, New Jersey, for many years. He is a gifted philosopher, professor and priest -- and, now, a librettist.

Father Munkelt has written the lyrics to a new opera, "Gracchus," which will be performed this month in Connecticut. If you or anyone you know will be in the tri-state area on Saturday, August 19, please consider attending the Palace Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut, at 4 p.m. with tickets in hand. I have not yet heard the opera but, if the words are anything like the dozens of sermons I have heard in person by Father Munkelt, the guest is in for a treat.

Details can be found here.

Final parish TLM in DC

The Diocese of Arlington has begun segregating those who attend the traditional Latin Mass from parish churches, a practice that started today (happy birthday, Mary!). The nearby Archdiocese of Washington begins its segregation of traditional Catholics on 21 September.

The very last traditional Latin Mass at a parish in the Archdiocese of Washington -- for now -- will be at Saint Anthony of Padua church, a parish near the Catholic University of America. The TLM congregation at Saint Anthony's is comprised of mostly young adults, many from CUA (as students who attend the TLM are not welcome to worship on campus). If you are nearby and need to see some hope for the future, this young congregation will make it worth the trip. The Missa Solemnis will be on 20 September at 7 p.m.

The votive Mass of Thanksgiving, for many years of the TLM in DC -- including several vocations -- will have a professional choir to sing "Missa Pange Lingua" by Josquin des Prez. Clergy from the region are invited to process (with cassock/habit, surplice and biretta) and sit in choir (in the sanctuary). Laymen are invited to pray in the pews at this bittersweet conclusion to so many years of graces from the TLM in parishes. Plenty of parking is available near the church (in the church/school lot or on the street), a short walk from the red line on the Metro.

Event in New York City: Sacred Art Conference for Young Adults

On Saturday, December 11th, Juventutem NYC will host a Sacred Art Conference at the Shrine Church of the Holy Innocents in New York City. The event will begin at 1:00pm with Holy Mass in the traditional Roman Rite, followed by talks on topics such as “Sanctifying Grace and Sacred Beauty” and “Churches as sacred spaces that consecrate and defend the consecrated.” The conference is held in honor of St Nicholas, and seven notable Italian Baroque paintings of the Miracles of Saint Nicholas from the private Papenhoek Collection will be presented for private devotion. The afternoon will round off with a young adult social with refreshments. Register by December 10th at JuventutemNYC.com/Events. Admission is $20 to help defray some of the costs and additional donations are gratefully appreciated. The Shrine of the Holy Innocents is located at 128 West 37th Street (at Broadway) in Manhattan. The parish is readily accessible by regional transit and is at walking distance from Penn Station.

The London Eucharistic Octave: Christ in the Blessed Sacrament on the move in London (Sep. 11-19, 2021)

Several of the Masses will be in the Traditional Rite or the Ordinariate use: please support this display of love and devotion for Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and His Kingship. (More information here -- and here for the programme of events.)

EVENTS: Upcoming Lectures in Arizona by Dr. Kwasniewski - Phoenix 12/5 and Tucson 12/6

On Saturday, December 5, I will be speaking on the topic “The King’s Advent: Why the Epistle is Read to the East and the Gospel to the North” at Mater Misericordiae Catholic Church (Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter), in Phoenix, AZ.

The lecture will explain the cosmic and anthropological symbolism of why the subdeacon faces east and the deacon north when chanting their readings at Solemn Mass, how the same symbolism is present in the Missa cantata when only the priest sings the readings, and why this detail is important, like every other detail in the traditional Mass.

We will sing Vespers at 5:00 pm for the Second Sunday of Advent. The talk will begin at 5:30pm, with socializing and book signing afterwards. I will have copies of several books, including my new book from Sophia Institute Press: The Holy Bread of Eternal Life: Restoring Eucharistic Reverence in an Age of Impiety.

Then, on Sunday, December 6, I will speak on the topic “Why Should I Consistently Attend the Traditional Latin Mass?” at St. Gianna Oratory (Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest), in Tucson, AZ.

The lecture will go into the importance of stability, consistency, and good habits in the spiritual life; how the classical Roman rite is a superior home or environment in which to settle down; and how it can be harmful to bounce back and forth between the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo.

The lecture will be held at 4:00 pm, followed by socializing and book signing; the evening will conclude with sung Vespers at 6:00 pm.

More details may be found in the posters below. I look forward to meeting traditional Catholics in the Phoenix and Tucson areas!

Events: Dr. Kwasniewski’s Upcoming Lectures in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio

After a long hiatus due to COVID-19, I will be resuming my public lectures with a trip to southern New Jersey, across Pennsylvania, and ending at the Franciscan University of Steubenville (my third visit to a most accommodating community, thanks to the local Juventutem and Una Voce chapters!). I will be giving a different talk at each location. The dates and locations follow. Nota bene: I am aware that, due to various restrictions, locations will have caps on the number of guests. As a result, we are working to ensure that the talks will be made available afterwards in video form; some, at least, will be published as well.

March for Life: First U.S. president in-person, and plenty of TLMs around

The announcement that President Donald Trump will speak in-person at the March for Life in Washington, D.C., tomorrow (Friday) at 12 noon is a game-changer for the annual commemoration of the Roe versus Wade court decision overturning pro-life state laws in the U.S.

Ronald Reagan was the first president to address the March for Life, in 1985, but via telephone from the Oval Office. He did so again in 1986, 1987 and 1988.  This was a big deal for America, as both Republican and Democrat presidents avoided the significant gathering on the National Mall each January 22nd until the second term of President Reagan. Both President George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spoke to the March for Life via audio, the latter usually from an out-of-town trip scheduled for January 22nd.

Mike Pence made history as the first vice president to address the March for Life in-person in 2017, the only time Secret Service was employed for security screening. He spoke again last year, unannounced (no screening) -- a bold move. For this year's March for Life, tomorrow (as the March for Life is now held on the Friday closest to January 22nd), Vice President Pence (baptized Catholic, no longer practicing) will be at the Vatican.

President Trump, who previously spoke to the March for Life via video/audio, will speak in-person for at least 15 minutes as early as 12 noon on Friday, January 24th.  The speeches, which will also include House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, Congressman Chris Smith, Louisiana First Lady Donna Edwards and Louisiana State Senator Katrina Jackson, will be at 12th Street on the National Mall.

It is highly recommended visitors plan ahead for extreme traffic and extensive security screening (the Secret Service prohibits even pieces of fruit).  Buses should depart earlier than they think if the goal is to see and hear the president inside the secure National Mall perimeter.  Expect the unexpected, such as the closure of the nearest Metro station (Smithsonian) and other hassles that result in delays to the main event.

It goes without saying many traditional Catholics come to the nation's capital for the March for Life.  To that end, there are numerous traditional Latin Masses offered in the District that day.  Saint Mary Mother of God church at 5th and H streets, NW, will have several visiting priests offer Low Masses at side altars starting as early as 7 a.m. Here are four scheduled Mass options in walking/Metro distance from the March for Life.

TLMs before and after the March for Life in D.C.

The annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., will be held on Friday, 24 January 2020.  Several speakers will address the thousands upon thousands of attendees on the National Mall at 12 noon.  During the current U.S. presidential administration the March for Life has featured Vice President Mike Pence speaking in person (announced) in 2017 and (unannounced) in 2019, and President Donald Trump has addressed the March via video/audio.  After the speakers the March goes to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Saint Mary Mother of God church at 727 5th Street, NW

Many traditional Catholics come to the nation's capital for the March for Life.  To that end, there are numerous traditional Latin Masses offered in the District that day.  Here is a running list based on various sources for TLMs to be offered in churches in Washington, D.C. -- publicly or privately via public announcement, at main or side altars -- on Friday 24 January:

8 a.m. Low Mass, Saint Mary Mother of God church at 5th and H streets, NW.  The pastor of the parish, Father Vincent De Rosa, will offer this Mass on the feast of Saint Timothy.

8:30 a.m. Low Mass, Saint Mary Mother of God church church at 5th and H streets, NW.  Father John Zuhlsdorf will offer this Mass.

8:45 a.m. Low Mass, Saint Mary Mother of God church at 5th and H streets, NW. Father Ron Floyd of the Diocese of Fall River will offer this Mass.

9 a.m. pontifical Low Mass, Holy Comforter church at 1357 East Capitol Street, SE.  Raymond Cardinal Burke will offer this Mass assisted by the Institute of Christ the King. [ N.B. this is quite a welcome development in the Archdiocese of Washington compared to the Mr. McCarrick and Cardinal Wuerl years.]

Pontifical High Mass with Cardinal Burke and Christkindlmarkt in La Crosse, December 14-15

We are very pleased to announce two very special things happening on this upcoming weekend at the magnificent Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin:

New SoundCloud Page for Audio of Dr Kwasniewski’s Lectures and Interviews

For a number of years, readers have been asking me to make available video and audio files of my lectures and interviews. This is indeed something I have wanted to do, but there are two limitations: one is my technological ineptitude, and the other is the need for planning in advance to have recordings made at events, which doesn’t always happen.

Nevertheless, over the past couple of years a good many such recordings have in fact been made, and I finally created a dedicated SoundCloud page on to which most of them have now been uploaded (and more will be added). Below I have listed the content currently available. I encourage you to explore and to recommend the site to others who appreciate audio content. All files are freely downloadable.
