You Report: Card. Burke and the rise of tradition in Slovakia

Note: The following report is from a reader, however we can report ourselves that we hear tradition, and the Mass, are rising in Slovakia. Be sure to look at all of the amazing photos in the link and a video of the full Mass below.

CLICK HERE for more wonderful photos.

From a reader:

Card. Burke visited Trnava, a city in Western Slovakia, between November 15 and 18, 2019 during the famous Trnava novena in honor of a miraculous image of Our Lady venerated in the Basilica of St. Nicholas. The picture wept blood in 1663 when Trnava was threatened by the Turks, and again in
1710 when Our Lady saved the city from the plague.

You Report: New chapter of Una Voce in the Washington, D.C. region

We are pleased to pass along this note from the new Northern Virginia chapter of Una Voce:

We would be delighted if Rorate could let its readership know about the newly-formed Chapter of Una Voce of NoVA. One of our Chapter’s objectives is to build a strong membership base in the Virginia-DC-Maryland-WV region, with the formation of local subchapters throughout the area.

Saint Joseph Una Voce has been gathering with other like-minded Catholics at St. Peter Catholic Church in Washington, VA, on First Saturday mornings after hearing the 8:30 am Tridentine Mass, generously offered by the pastor, Fr. Kevin Beres. With Father's kind permission, a Meet and Greet pot-luck brunch follows, where old, new, and prospective members can meet and socialize. During brunch, an informal conversation ensues in which new goals and advancements are discussed.

Also, we are launching our speaker program, in which well-respected Catholic speakers are being invited to speak on topics of interest to our membership and friends. At present, we are finalizing plans for a popular speaker and hope to have the details published soon. Please check back to our website, under the News and Events tab, for the most current information.

Do visit our website. We invite you to see the endorsements of some of the faithful prelates, clergy, and laity who have enthusiastically encouraged our efforts.

Ten-hut! First Solemn High Mass at West Point for cadets in six decades

We received a short report from a reader on one of the more unusual places to see a Solemn High Mass take place:

There was a Solemn High Mass at West Point Academy on Friday, January 11, 2019. Captain Randy Shed asked Fr. Donald Kloster if he could organize the first Solemn High Mass at Holy Trinity Chapel in at least 57 years. Captain Shed then asked his pastor about the possibility of a Solemn High Mass at West Point. Rev. Fr. Major Sean Magnuson was very gracious to us and gave us the needed permission.

About 120 faithful attended in the pews. About half were from West Point Academy and the other half were civilians from New York and Connecticut.

12th Anniversary You Report, from a Convert from Islam:
Rorate Mass in Smyrna, Anatolia

The Traditional Mass can be a powerful instrument for the conversion of non-Christians. It inspires, in its great mysteries, awe and respect, it shows how great are the things in which we Catholics believe by how deeply we cherish what we celebrate. (On this matter, please see the FIUV paper on Islam below.)

This particular You Report post has filled us with great emotion: a convert from Islam who has fought with his friends for a Traditional Mass in the most unexpected of places, the once immensely Christian city of Smyrna (İzmir, in Turkey). And now they can celebrate the advent of Baby Jesus with the Traditional Mass of the Latin Church. What great Christmas gift, what great gift for our little blog on its 12th anniversary!

I am a Turkish Catholic, a convert to the faith from Islam. Ever since I joined the Church, I wanted the Traditional Latin Mass to be celebrated in our diocese. After much prayer and constant petition for 3 years, we have finally started to celebrate it on Fridays.

You report: Priest in drag on national TV says his 'talent' is God's gift

The following report is from a reader in Ireland who feels compelled to share this story with the rest of the Catholic world. Every time you think it can't get worse in Ireland ...

On Irish National TV (RTE 1) last Sunday night, we saw an Irish parish priest from the Diocese of Waterford & Lismore, perform a drag act as "Shirley Bassey." It was the third show in a series of "Francis Brennan's Tour of Vietnam" with 12 travellers including Fr. Richard Geoghegan, P.P. (Ballyneale, Tipperary).

Father Geoghegan says he is following the parable Jesus preached about not hiding your talents under a bushel but to go out and use them. He is saying that he has a talent for drag and he is using the drag talent that God gave him.

You report: New Sunday TLM in Connecticut

Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage - Final Day

A short report, by a pilgrim:

The final day of the Summorum Pontificum pilgrimage to Rome was the feast of Christ the King. To celebrate this feast, His Grace The Archbishop of Portland, Oregon, the Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample, offered Pontifical High Mass at the church of Santissima Trinità dei Pellegrini, which is the church entrusted to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter in Rome.

Beautiful Ars Celebrandi Traditional liturgy workshop in Poland - report and pictures, with declarations by Bp. Schneider

On 19 August 2015, at the “Ars Celebrandi” workshop of traditional liturgy [see announcement here], bishop Athanasius Schneider from Kazakhstan celebrated Pontifical Mass and Vespers, and gave a lecture on the proper renewal of the liturgy and due adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. He also answered questions from the participants of the workshops and signed his latest book Corpus Christi.

In his lecture, entitled “The Renewal of the Liturgy and the Perennial Sense of the Church”, which abounded in quotations from the New Testament, the writings of the Church Fathers and the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, His Excellency pointed out that the essential feature of the sacred liturgy is the adoration of God.

Classical Catholic School Opening in New Jersey: Sedes Sapientiae School

This Fall, New Jersey will be graced by the opening of a classical Catholic middle/high school – the first of its kind in New Jersey, and arguably the only of its kind in the entire Northeast: Sedes Sapientiae School.

The School’s inaugural class will range from approximately 11 to 20 students.

Launching this school has been a tremendously daunting undertaking, several years in the making. Those of us associated with the school reach out to you, the good readers of Rorate Caeli, for all the help and support we can get. We would very much appreciate it if you would keep us in your prayers, and help “spread the word” about this exciting development.

We’d also certainly appreciate any financial support that those who are able might be open to providing. The school has certain fixed expenses, yet a modest inaugural class. Until we get our enrollment numbers up (which will take a few years), our financial situation will be precarious. Any help now, at this critical moment, as we get ourselves fully established, would be of enormous assistance.

The School’s website is:

The website provides more information about the School, and has a link for donations.

***

The School’s location for the upcoming academic year (in Chatham Township, NJ) is a temporary one, and, unfortunately, does not feature a chapel. As such, the precise details regarding the School’s liturgical life have yet to be established. That said, three of the School’s four boardmembers hail from the FSSP apostolate in Pequannock, NJ (Our Lady of Fatima Chapel). Devotions such as the Rosary and Eucharistic Adoration, in addition to the Sacrament of Confession, will be made regularly available, on-site, to the School’s students, faculty, and staff. Gregorian Chant and Sacred Polyphony will be taught. Regarding the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it is our intention to eventually have the Mass regularly offered at the School in the Extraordinary Form or not at all.

Hope amidst ruins: The Church of Christ will live forever

Report sent by a reader in Scotland:
On 20th June, Holy Mass was said at the remains of Crossraguel Abbey, Ayrshire, Scotland. The celebrant was Fr Mark Morris of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. The Abbey was founded in the mid 13th century and was later sacked by an English Army. Rebuilt, its religious life was eventually brought to an end by the Scottish Reformation.
