Does this PR replace #5837? You should only open one pull request per change that you make. You can just push again into the branch to update your pull request. If all changes from #5837 are included here, please close the other pull request.

@amueller No, PR #5841 "dataset transformation" is for a different file that doesn't fall under the other issue.

@amueller I accidentally incorporated changes on this branch that were supposed to be on another one (#5837)

there are two valid PRs: #5855 and #5837
