The Blogger issue (unable to use its UI) seems solved now

By Vasudev Ram

Hi, readers,

The Google Blogger issue that I referred to, here and here, seems to be solved now.

I suspected that it was either an issue at Google's end (e.g. an introduced bug that had not yet been fixed) or some configuration / cookie / cache issue at my end.

I did some stuff to debug it, like logging out and back in, logging in to a different Gmail account and then logging back into the previous one, clearing my browser cache, etc. One or other of those things seems to have worked.

I am writing this current post via the regular Blogger UI, not via the email-to-blog interface that I used in the interim. So if the post appears okay, it likely means that the issue has been resolved. Will write a small Python test post or two in the next few days to verify this, and then resume normal blogging.

Thanks for your patience.

Google integrates Blogger with Google Domains

By Vasudev Ram

The Google Domains service was started recently. (It is US-only as of now, but you can sign up to be notified when it is available in your own country.)

Today I saw on Blogger that Google has integrated Google Domains with Blogger. So you can now buy a domain from Google via Google Domains, from within Blogger.

Here are a couple of posts about this:

Now, Google+ comments on your Blogger blog

By Vasudev Ram

Just saw the news via an email from Google.

Bringing Google+ Comments to Blogger

Looks like an interesting idea.

Some of the benefits mentioned for this feature:

- View your blog and Google+ comments, all in one place

- Help readers comment and connect with their circles

I enabled the feature for my blog - this one, jugad2.blogspot.com .

Let's see how it works out. There may be a few issues initially, but over time those should get fixed.

Google's Blogger .no TLD bug is real, happens for others too

I had blogged about it a few posts ago.

Today I saw this URL for the Raspberry Python blog, which has posts about Brython, which I blogged about recently; it also seems to have the same issue of having  .no as the TLD, unless that blog is actually in the Norway TLD (Top Level Domain):

http://raspberry-python.blogspot.no/search/label/python?m=1

Interestingly, the issue (of showing jugad2.blogspot.no instead of jugad2.blogspot.com or  .in), went away on my blog for a day or two, but has come back again.

I wish Google could transport me to Norway, instead of my blog, ha ha. Or how about some place like Bali for the winter and then Norway for the summer   ...  :)

A Google Blogger bug?

Twitter

Odd. All my posts after and including the one linked above, show  .no as the TLD (Top Level Domain) instead of  .com or  .in.

Happening since two days.

In fact, when I go to my blog from my phone, it shows jugad2.blogspot.no  .

Weird.

While (and if) you're fixing that, deere Googel :), how about fixing the unwanted and annoying automatic spelling "correction" when I type a space then a dot after a word with the intention of making it an ellipsis, like so  ...

Don't delete my spaces! And more importantly, don't try to second-guess, third-guess, or nth-guess me.

This is one of the things I highly dislike about Google. They (or their software) often seems to act like There Is Only One Way To Do It, namely, theirs.

"My way or the highway" has never worked for me, and never will.

See 1) George Bush (the second) quote - "if you're not for us, you're against us", and 2) the similar scene in the classic Ben Hur movie, in the dialog between Ben Hur and Messala, the Roman legionary.

(Google - what else, bah! - for both of the quotes and for the movie.)

Guess who won in both cases  ...

New Blogger Views feature is cool, may be useful

By Vasudev Ram - www.dancingbison.com

Google's Blogger site recently introduced this new feature called Blogger Views.

I had enabled it then but did not try it out much. Now I've tried it out a bit more, and it seems to be a cool feature and also may be useful to blog readers.

You can check out my blog with Blogger Views here:

http://jugad2.blogspot.com/view

The view defaults to the Sidebar view, but there is a dropdown at the top to change it (*); 5 different types of views are supported: Flipcard, Mosaic, Sidebar, Snapshot and Timeslide. I don't like all of them equally - one or two of them have distracting animations which I wish were not there, but overall, Blogger Views seems an innovative feature.

The feature is still new and does seem to have a bug or two.

(*) If you prefer typing to using the mouse, you can go to any view by using a URL of the format:

base_blog_URL/view/view_name

E.g.:

http://jugad2.blogspot.com/view/sidebar

or

http://jugad2.blogspot.com/view/flipcard

Enjoy ...
