I’m in the area and support this message.
Well I certainly wouldn’t pay for cascadia.
You should, it is a good boardgame.
But would you pay for Cascada?
What, the dishwashing soap? Sure, I guess. As long as it’s a good price.
No no, I mean early 2000s dance music!
The Macarena?
I find his sign compelling.
As long as you dont take BC, go for it.
BC will remain with Canada. Eventually, California, Oregon, and Washington will band together, and Canada and Mexico will recognize and support them, and then MAGA America will be surrounded by hostile territory on every land border.
They will also have no access to any West Coast ports, at all. All MAGA America bound goods will have to take a trip through the Panama Canal, which will take longer, be very expensive, and be vulnerable to attacks by foreign aggressors and pirates. They will also have no military presence on the Pacific Coast at all, especially if Hawaii decides to join Cascadia, or more likely, become independent. Without supporting supply lines from the West Coast, MAGA America couldn’t effectively defend itself from a Hawaiian uprising for long, especially if Hawaii gets help from other nations.
And if they think they’re going to take and control the Panama Canal, they won’t. It will be enormously difficult to take, and will be even more difficult to hold, as they fight battles on too many fronts (Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, Cascadia, Hawaii, other Central and South American countries, etc., and they aren’t going to forget people they hate in the Middle East), to be effective anywhere. It would be just like these moronic podcasters to think they have the infinite resources to fight every war in every place. If it comes down to it, the Canal can just be destroyed, and without Pacific ports, and no Panama Canal, MAGA America won’t be able to get any goods from Asia.
That means they’ll have to manufacture EVERYTHING they need within their borders, which will be impossible, and take a lot of time to establish, but also makes them vulnerable to sabotage and attacks that would cripple vital supply chains. Even if they ramp up security around factories, those are just expensive resources being wasted.
Add guerilla warfare across America, backed by foreign enemies of MAGA America, and you have an endless Civil War that MAGA America can never, ever win.
How about instead of all of that, we just take control of Congress in 2026, start to impeach and convict a lot of really bad people, and take it all back on 2028, then crush MAGA mercilessly, and ruthlessly purge them from our government and our society? That would be easier, and more satisfying.
That is a silhouette of a rather unhealthy conifer, NGL. 😰
That’s what the giant redwoods look like.
Fair point. 🫡
Doug fir*
I stand corrected thank you
I think it’s hilarious that you can slap a tree on a white supremacist flag, and everyone just pretends it’s some kind of hippie movement.
Famously, France and the NL have the same flag but turned 90°. Tricolors are not unlikely to share colors with unlike factions.
Stripes are going in different direction and unless this person is espousing the white supremacist ideas from the other org using the colors, we can assume it’s completely unrelated until proven otherwise
This flag is fairly well known even though it has no official use.
It’s not a racist dog whistle if I can’t hear it
Lol dude you’re trying too hard.
There are real racists out there doing actual racist stuff. Go fuck with them as much as you’re messing around in here.
Often flags from a region will have similar color schemes, even if they are ideologically opposed to each other.
If there’s overlap between the groups of people that use the flag, then that’s a problem
Right, of course. Because they all originate from the historical color scheme of the First Nations Kingdom of Cascadia…
Stay in school, kids.
In the academic year of 1994-1995, I ended up doing graduate work in Eastern Europe studying nationalism and ethnic minorities. Though I totally love the people, cultures and landscape of Eastern Europe, I was deeply homesick for the forests of Cascadia, specifically the Willamette Valley forests I grew up around. One day in spring as I sat on a hill with my companion, I explained to her what the landscape of my home looked like. I said those vast vineyards if at my house would be vast green forests; the distant mountains of the Matras would be the snowcapped Cascades with white clouds hovering above; and above that might be the blue sky. The three colors of blue, white and green came to mind and that the pine tree in front of us would be a Douglas fir. The image stuck in my mind and spent a lot of time obsessively drawing the flag which really annoyed my soon to be wife. That period of time was crucial in regards to what was happening in Cascadia at that point.
It doesn’t sound like that much of a stretch. If you got someone unfamiliar with these flags and had them pick some colors, I wouldn’t be surprised if they picked the same ones.
The flag on the other wiki cites this page for the flag
The “Republic” and its flag are based on the so-called “Northwest Imperative,” a longstanding call by some white supremacists, including Covington, for white people to move to the Pacific Northwest and establish their own country there. Covington promoted this idea on the Internet and in various novels.
Covington, ostracized by most of the white supremacist movement, had few followers, but did have a significant Internet presence that could catch the attention of would-be white supremacists.
Then from this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Covington
He launched a website in 1996; using the pseudonym Winston Smith (taken from the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four), Covington became one of the first neo-Nazi presences on the Internet
So if anything, it sounds like this guy based his flag off of the other one because it was popular at the time, and continues to be more well known than his one.
So again:
- two flags can have the same color scheme and be ideologically opposed to each other
- It doesn’t make sense to crap on symbols because a separate group is using a similar symbol. Doing so only weakens the positive symbol and strengthens the bad one
It just looks, to me, that that guy was pissed he missed out on being part of the IRA.
Swap the blue for red and its pretty much the Irish flag. Dont say its the Mexican flag, that would really have pissed him off.
You got sauce for that?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Territorial_Imperative
The territory which is proposed by the Northwest Territorial Imperative partially overlaps with the bioregion proposed by the Cascadia independence movement, and the two movements share similar flags, however they have no ties to each other as the Cascadia movement is based in bioregionalism.
In my experience, that’s about as true as the Stars and Bars being a celebration of Southern heritage and culture. If you look right, it’s apparent it’s about a northwestern American bioregion for northwestern Europeans.
It’s the Doug flag, not whatever you linked.
Their flag looks nothing like the Cascadia Flag. The stripes aren’t even going the same direction.
Thanks, that’s new info to me
It’s disinfo.
