Latest release dates back to 2010-Nov-18... its 2015, and #1451266: Links should not render if user does not have access has been in since November 20, 2012 (http://drupalcode.org/project/views_linkarea.git/commit/a3e5f91)

I don't see any other major bugs that would need fixing before a new release.

Also fyi there is someone willing to help maintain the project if you feel you guys no longer have the time for it :) #2025903: Offering to maintain Views link area

Setting it back to active, and changing the title to be a bit more specific by what I meant for a new release...

Any specific changes that got in lately you feel need further testing? We can list them here for example, so people can chip in.

All the features from the "mega patch" should be in the dev release. Please test it to see if everything is working as expected. Once I hear back from a few folks I'll publish a 1.1
