GREENPOINT

Treatment: Form + Content Overview


Greenpoint, also known as Little Poland is the Polish district of New York is where I live. Ive been living in Brooklyn for about 7 years. I lived in Bushwick and Williamsburg and 7 month ago I moved to Greenpoint. One thing that is obvious about Brooklyn is it changing, all the time, it becoming a faster and faster , almost like its competing with the city ( manhattan). I choose Greenpoint because I felt that this neighborhood is at a change pick, which is interesting ( and sad). The name Little Poland came to be applied following an influx of Polish immigrants after 1900. Greenpoint is authentic and anomaly as a little town in Poland. It retains much of its old and ethnic ways. The pedestrians chatter is in Polish and the signs say Rozliczenia podatkowe (tax accounts), Dentysta (dentist), along with many doorways reading Zapraszamy (You are welcome). Also polish people shown an excellent gardening skills, flowers are everywhere. Little Poland heritage is slowly changing and becoming effected by the hip,cool wave that goes on in Williamsburg. Vintage stores,tattoos places, coffee places and record store are popping up everywhere and the crowd becomes a mix of families and mid twenties singles. I want to depict this change, old and new world combined. Im inspired by the visuals of polish domestic decoration that Ive seen in my neighbors houses and gardens, and mainly from the paper cut decoration. My illustration is vector based of silluets and will combined icons from the two worlds. To the polish visual I want to add some current beats and fast movement, for sound Im thinking a good Gogol Bordello would be perfect for this.

Im trying to find more icons and symbols for the new, younger world. Also Im trying to figure out an interesting way to animate this. All I could come up with is the concept of symmetry which is based on the paper cutting, as one would fold the paper before cutting so the image always duplicates itself. But Im worried that might repeat too much
