Unsteady Fluid Flow in Orifice

This document discusses the unsteady flow of fluid through an orifice. It describes an experiment to measure the time it takes to empty a tank with water through a hole in the bottom. Materials needed include a tank, cutter, timer, and measuring tape. The procedure involves creating a 1.5cm diameter orifice in a 12x18x5cm tank, filling it with water to a 3.5cm height, starting the timer when the orifice is opened, and stopping it when the tank is empty. The experiment is repeated three times to find the most accurate time value.

FLOW OF FLUID IN ORIFICE
INTRODUCTION:

Most of us doesnt really care about the time we consume just to fill or to empty the tank but in
this topic we would let you know how a water flows out from its tank or container. As to this topic we
will compute the time required to empty the tank so it will be a pleasure for you to know the time it
requires to empty your container so you could save some of your time. We know that measuring the
time required just to empty a single glass of water, tank or container is hassle or we really didnt have to
do this every time but as extra knowledge for us it will be helpful in our study or daily life if know the
principle of unsteady flow of fluid in the orifice. So now its time to do the computation and experiment
to know that if the computed value of time would be equal to the actual value of time.

Materials Needed

1. Tank/Container
2. Cutter
3. Timer
4. Measuring tape

PROCEDURE:

Get the tank or container with a dimension of 12x18x5 measured in centimeters, use the
cutter to make a hole at the bottom side of the 12cm width with a diameter of 1.5cm.Close the whole or
the orifice to stop the water to flow and fill the tank or container by water until it reached the height of
3.5cm using the measuring tape. Set the timer, start the timer as you open the orifice and stop it when
the tank or container is empty. Do the test three times to find the most accurate value on your solution.
