Chapter I
Background of the Study
A. Introduction
Sometimes to make a PCB, we required more time for designing, printing, etching as
well as drilling.
In electronics one of the key concepts is the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). A printed
circuit board is a copper sheet coated on a non-conductive substrate use to electrically connect
and mechanically support the components mounted in it.
Making a PCB is an involving process that those who are involved in an electronic
industry must have to go through. Among its many tasks are the act of etching using a corrosive
chemical with maximum safety and the act of drilling holes which needs precision and patience.
The number of components needed to make the PCB together with its escalating grow in demand
can lead to countless frustrations among the laborers which can have a significant effect on the
production efficiency in mass scale production.
The idea of this project is for the researchers to develop a low cost and user friendly PCB
milling and engraving machine such that it can be preferred by small scale industries to reduce
time and labor required and to increase accuracy and precision of making a PCB.
In this paper, the design of a PCB milling and engraving machine, where the drill holes
and the layout are automatically find out from an image of the circuit in EAGLE software. This
paper focuses on the design and implementation of automatic PCB milling and drilling machine
using ARDUINO UNO. Further the drilling machine uses path planning through co-ordinate
measurement machine method which is used to make the system more stable and accurate.
