Blood Flow: Right Atrium

The document describes the human cardiovascular system. It has two circulatory paths: pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation. Pulmonary circulation transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs and returns oxygenated blood to the heart. Systemic circulation pumps oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart. Key components involved in each circulation are described, including major veins, arteries, valves, and heart chambers.

Cardiovascular System is composed of two circulatory paths:

Pulmonary Circulation and Systemic Circulation
PULMONARY SYSTEMIC
PULMONARY CIRCULATION – moves blood between the heart and the lungs. CIRCULATION CIRCULATION

- transports deoxygenated blood to the lungs to absorb Oxygen and release

Carbon Dioxide then the oxygenated blood flows back to the heart.

Parts involved:
MAJOR ARTERIES: MAJOR VEINS:
 superior vena cava – large, short vein that carries deoxygenated
blood from the upper half of the body is the superior vena cava. CORORNARY ARTERY (blood SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
 inferior vena cava - largest vein that carries deoxygenated blood from the to the heart)
lower half of the body to the right atrium of the heart. INFERIOR VENA CAVA
 Right Atrium – One of the four chambers of the heart ; Deoxygenated blood PULMONARY ARTERY (blood
enters the right atrium through the inferior and superior vena cava. to the lungs) PULMONARY VEIN
 Tricuspid Valve - prevent back flow of blood.
AORTA (blood to the body)
 Right Ventricle - pumps the blood up through the pulmonary valve
and through the pulmonary artery to the lungs.
 Pulmonary Valve - It is a one-way valve, meaning that blood cannot flow
back into the heart through it. MAJOR VALVES: MAJOR HEART CHAMBERS:
 Pulmonary Artery - carrying blood from the right ventricle of the heart to
TRICUSPID VALVE RIGHT ATRIUM
the lungs.
BICUSPID VALVE RIGHT VENTRICLE
SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION – moves blood between the heart and the rest of the body
PULMONARY VALVE LEFT ATRIUM
- Sends oxygenated blood to the body and returns deoxygenated blood to the heart.
AORTIC VALVE LEFT VENTRICLE
Parts involved:

 Pulmonary Veins - transfer oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart.
 Left atrium – one of the four chambers of the heart ; oxygenated blood
Enters the left atrium from the lungs.
 Bicuspid valve - a pump to transport blood to other areas of the heart.
 Left Ventricle - the left ventricle receives oxygenated blood from the left
atrium and pumps it through the biscupid valve.
 Aortic Valve - Opens to allow blood to leave the heart.
 Aorta - main artery that carries blood away from your heart to the rest of your body.
