II. RESEARCH PROJECT PROGRESS
During our Methods of Research course, our thesis group was formed
by free choice of members. Our group containing five members made an
assignment for each member to make a concept paper suitable for
chemical engineering prototype thesis. The group submitted five concept
papers to Ma’am Mary. Two concept papers are marked to have potentials
which are brought about from the concepts of wastewater treatment system
and adsorption cooling system. The group has decided to push through
with the topic, “Design and Development of a Portable Vaccine Storage
with Solar Adsorption Cooling System”. Thesis making was smooth and
no serious matters came upon the group. Making chapter one and two did
not face serious difficulties. However, making chapter three was the
hardest part. Our group struggled with coming up with a novel design with
reliable efficiency and portability. Our group had a hard time making
chapter three since we realized that the topic was advanced for us. Also,
the study also seems to be not feasible. The group was not able to come up
with a design of a vaccine storage with good portability. During proposal
defense, the panel decided for a redefense to show the simulation of the
equipment. After defense, we discussed the matter together with our thesis
adviser, Sir Rejie. Sir Rejie suggested going to ITCPH in Lipa, Batangas
to ask for thesis topics. The group decided to push to a new topic and went
to ITCHPH for brainstorming and suggestion of thesis topics.
December 19, 2017 – The first defense was conducted for the
proposal of thesis entitled “Design and Development of a
Portable Vaccine Storage with Cooling Adsorption System”.
The team was ordered by the panelists to have another defense
to make sure of the feasibility of the topic.
December 20, 2017 – The researchers brainstormed on how and
where to get a new thesis topic.
January 10, 2018 – The researchers went to the ATI-ITCPH at
Lipa City to inquire about researches and developments that are
needed in the farm.
January 20, 2018 – An idea about swine wastewater system
was suggested and was decided on to be the thesis topic.
January 21, 2018 – The proponents started to work on the paper
works of the thesis topic.
February 2, 2018 – The proposal defense for the new topic was
accomplished.
The following progresses on the proposed research project were made
for the development of the research prototype:
March 3, 2018 – The design of the prototype was given to the
fabricator, Premium One. Overall system components, the
materials and fabrication cost were discussed. The fabricator
suggested for some changes in the materials to be used to decrease
the cost of the prototype itself and make the equipment more
sustainable and efficient for the potential users.
March 20, 2018 – The researchers went to the ATI- ITCPH at Lipa
City to inquire about the acquiring of the swine waste sample from
their farm.
April 16, 2018 – The researchers went to the laboratory at the ATI-
ITCPH to inquire about the acquirement of LABS serum that will
be used. The researchers also had given an idea by Engr. Mercado
of ATI-ITCPH where to purchase activated carbon filter and
structured packing.
April 24, 2018 – Activated carbon filter and structured packing to
be used in the research project were acquired from Jeida Farm
Supplies. Considerations on the specifications needed were taken
into account before purchasing.
April 28, 2018 –Since the fabricator is an expertise of many types
of fabrication that involves pipings and pumps on wastewater
treatment system, his opinions and certain modifications on the
design were taken into consideration in making the final layout of
the design of the prototype.
May 30, 2018, the researchers will go back to their fabricator to
give the final layout of the design of the prototype.
September 16, 2018 - Structured packing was given to the
fabricator.
September 2018 – Enough amount of moringa seeds was acquired.
November 2018 - Swine waste water sample was
purchase LABS
Testing for physical properties and chemical properties before
treatment which are listed in the Chapter 1 of the manuscript will
be done as soon as the fabrication starts.
